Babesia Relapse?

My daughter got off Mepron & azithromycin 2 weeks ago for Babesia Duncani. (Her labs from IGENIX showed she was only one point away from infection being inactive.) She feels fine but is pale intermittently and has dark circles under her eyes. Is this a sign of relapse? I’m wondering if we should put her back on meds.

My LLMD who is very knowledgeable and experienced - has been treating Lyme patients for over 25 years. He is known to be one of the best LLMDs in the world.
He does not use testing to determine when a patient is in remission and can stop treating.
Resolution of symptoms is key.
Was your daughter treated for Lyme (Borrelia) and Bartonella?
The three B’s ususlly travel together.

How long was she treated for Babesia?

Do you know if her Dr is Lyme literate? Or a general practitioner?

Edit to add: Was your daughter symptom free when she first stopped treatment - and has now relapsed?
I think she should go back on meds - and talk to her prescribing physician ASAP.

She has been under treatment for 5 years. Has cleared Lyme and Bart.

Was symptom free and numbers were good which is why her LLMD/Neurologist felt comfortable taking her off. I was so ready for this to come to an end that I was not ready to admit she needs to go back on meds. She has a f/u with doc soon.

How long after reaching symptom free did she stop taking the abx?

I am on maintenance - which started in 2019 - taking the abx one week followed by 3 weeks off.
I am now stretching the time off - 4 weeks off for a few months - then 5 weeks off.. etc.
No relapsing so far.
Maybe ask the Dr if she can wean off gradually.

She was symptom free for about 5 months. Need to get her IGG numbers checked to make sure she doesn’t need IVIG. Her IGG #’s have been steadily improving and maintaining better numbers for longer periods.

I will ask about gradually weening her off meds. Great idea as she feels fine but just looks pale and sickly.

That’s great you are able to stretch out your time between abx!

Symptom free for 5 months- that is great!
It just might take a few times of doing the same.

I’m glad I could help!

This forum saved me….members on this forum told me my symptoms could indeed be Lyme. And suggested getting tested with Igenex.
I had tested negative for Lyme here in Canada.
I was positive with Igenex.

I am forever grateful!!
