@running wild: One thing I've learnt in Lyme world is that it's difficult to tell exactly what is true and what not. There is a ton of research done that is supposed to prove something works just because they got a financial incentive to do so. I wouldn't claim stinging nettle works 100% unless I did a trial myself. I can only rely on what other people claim. Now whom would I trust more - those that get huge gov/pharma grants or those that barely make ends meet but actively working with a lot of poor patients rejected by insurance companies and hospitals? I guess you know the answer already.
The reason why I trust Buhner more than some MDs or LLMDs is that he doesn't sell any herbs, drugs or supplements himself. He doesn't profit off suggesting a specific supplement such as few grams of powdered garlic for $100 or energetically enhanced herbal tincture for $80. Is he always right? Hell no. I don't agree with him on L-arginine supplementation for example and arguments made by Mark Sloan in his Methylene Blue book make more sense to me. He seems to be wrong about dying Bartonella causing no Herx - there are numerous reports of people suffering tremendously due to Bart die off. Then again, he's been way ahead of most MDs and LLMDs in helping Lyme patients in need. He probably makes $5 profit on each book sold. I guess we should ask how much do those promoting $100 garlic powder make in kickbacks.
I had a friend who took statins for high cholesterol for years. His only "symptom" was higher than normal LDL reading in blood work. After years of taking statins he died at the age of 49, avoiding all kinds of fat.
Maybe I'd bite the dust by treating my kidneys with stinging nettle. But I'm sure better off with Buhner herbs than after 3 weeks of Doxy!
