Hi everyone. I would like to go on a supplement during the warmer months to help protect my self if I do get any bug bites. I think cats claw might be a good option but is samento worth the extra costs? It’s about a forty dollar difference. Also if anyone else has any other options please let me know. Thank you!

The best of Buhner's herbal for prevention would be astragalus root at 1000 mg daily. If tick bite, then increase to 3000 mg per day for 30 days. Double check my memory. I loaned out all my Lyme books to my LLMD for others to read.

Yes what Tickbite said - Buhner recommends astragalus.

“ NEW TICK BITES
For new tick bites, Stephen typically recommends taking astragalus – 3,000 mg daily for 30 days, 1,000 mg daily thereafter, indefinitely. Also: using a paste made of andrographis tincture mixed with green clay, the paste applied on the tick bite area can often prevent an active infection.“

from reading his books - Buhner preferred cats claw to samento

acc to his books - astragalus is best used as a preventative - as per above

if already infected with lyme it can apparently cause problems by stimulating a part of the immune system that is already upregulated and problematic in chronic Lyme - leading to more symptoms.

however, this effect appears to be highly individual - and some can use it even in chronic lyme - his advice is to try it and see if you feel better or worse.

One thing I have not tried is Chinese Cat's Claw vs the regular Cat's Claw most of us have taken. It also goes by a chinese name that escapes my Lymie Memory banks. (Gou Tai ???)


I was pretty close.... it's Gou Teng. I must have been thinking of a Mai Tai... another of my favorite tonics.

i am using the Chinese cats claw - also called Gou teng and Uncaria Rhynchophylia in latin

i think i have found it helpful for CNS type symptoms- but mildly so - am taking 4ml 4x a day of 1:4 60% tincture
my gradual improvements started only after adding this, Chinese skullcap and salvia militorhiza to my existing long term buhner approach of mainly knotweed and cats claw
