Sharp, jumping quick pains all over?

Hi again everyone, I have been posting a lot as it seems every day there's a new and mysterious thing that I feel uncertain about!

I've been on clarithromycin about 2.5 months, added in rifampin a couple of weeks ago and have titrated up to 300mg twice a day. I'm tolerating everything pretty well, so far. Anyway as of a few hours ago I started getting all these random, sharp and shooting pains all over my body, in very quick succession one after the other, in my foot, moving to my knee, my tooth, jaw, etc. All within like a minute. I know "migrating pain" can be a symptom, but never heard of this type of thing. I'm thinking it could also be neuropathy from abx, but just curious if anyone else has experienced this or has insight.

It's not terrible pain, in fact quite minor almost like a shock you get from static, but obviously a very strange sensation.

I had that, too, when treating and had never had anything quite like it prior to treatment. It happened to me when I was starting houttuynia and Sida acuta, so I assumed it was bartonella. It felt like sharp, electrical zaps.

When my lyme was at its worst I had to be careful moving around and move slowly.

In the morning my body would be very stiff I would get a lot of lighter pains that were more alarming than painful. I know I think this was due to the overall stiffness being worse in the morning creating a condition where you’re not getting a very good tissue and nerve circulation. Stretching does not seem to help with this because you cannot stretch when you’re tight it’s not the same as people that do not have lyme.

Massage certainly helped but that’s very inconvenient and costly. So years ago when I learned all this I started using those foam fitness rollers. You can obviously now get them only 18 inches long and different varieties of density, soft to firm. Any sporting goods department has these for sale. I also used low pressure four-inch fitness balls to roll around on the floor. All this really helps and you can actually feel the circulation moving again and the lighter pain goes away.

So I also had many episodes of extreme pain that’s a different story I use the same approach but much more aggressive with a lot more thought as to where the pain was originating from because it’s not always in the aerea or you feel it.

Moving your body over these rollers and exercise balls technically is detoxing your tissues. There’s no pill that can do this that fast.

That said, I did use a variety of different detoxifying supplements which may be helped to some extent internally but not on muscle or nerve tissue. The best detoxifier I used was for a liver phase one and two called D-limonine by Jarrow.

So if this doesn’t go away on its own you might wanna try these. You can also use them for the rest of your life.

Note: my LLMD started recommending these after I mentioned this years ago -mostly for patients who had extreme pain though.

Oh I also forgot that I added japanese knotweed back in to my protocol two days ago, which also kind of coincides with these symptoms....so many moving parts, it's hard to keep track of it all :'(

I generally do only introduce one thing at a time but I've been on all these medications before. For example I had to stop JK for a little bit because my naturopath ran out of it so I was on about a month break. I think what I haven't anticipated is that being on antibiotics has changed my response to a lot of the things that I previously tolerated or had no side effects from. I keep a spreadsheet for my medication introductions and responses but it can be easy to get sloppy when you think you already tolerate a treatment.

Neil Nathan says that electrical zaps should make people consider mold exposure, especially if they're trying to figure out whether their symptoms are from Bartonella or mold. In keeping with the adage to look for horses instead of zebras, I'd assume that this symptom is related to your recent med change, but in case you rule that out, then perhaps consider mold exposure or other environmental toxicity.

I had the electric zaps also- night in feet and hands. It eventually turned into carpal tunnel pain in my hands. I would even frequently drop my toothbrush or my hair comb would just go flying out of my hands.

Could never properly play a guitar because of it and will never be able to either - doing something like that for a long time will make it come back so I avoid those things. Probably scar tissue in my wrists after all that for all those years.

Feet ended up just getting really hot sensations for a long time but never numbness.

I battled Those symptoms for years off and on. Decades later I seem to be 90% recovered from that.

Responding to your last post here where you mentioned motility, digestive tract, and MCAS. I have recalcitrant constipation that I manage with nightly doses of Natural Calm magnesium supplement. I also had a lot of symptoms that were MCAS related and had mold issues.

For years, I felt like I had a toxin producing factory in my gut that kept me inflamed and symptomatic no matter what treatment I did or how much binders I took. Finally, I requested Rx antifungals and started Nystatin and Fluconazole. They helped a lot. Then I started TUDCA and that was a genuine game changer for me.

If you have not tried anti-fungals and TUDCA, they could help a lot with rooting out the cause for the MCAS symptoms. I continue to take them ongoing.

Just thought I would update this. I stopped the japanese knotweed and for the most part my symptoms went away...so I guess I found the culprit! I still had a bit of increased reactivity for a day or so after but I'm not sure how long it takes for JK to leave the system, that could be why.

Super annoying as I took JK for probably over a year, maybe close to two, prior to this and have suddenly stopped tolerating it now that I'm on abx. My reactions were definitely MCAS and not herx-like, but it makes me wonder if it's worth trying to get back on it because maybe the abx are making it much more effective and my mast cells are just angry about it. Since starting abx I have definitely had some herbs that didn't do anything for me previous now make me herx, like with black walnut.

I've found that bartonella in particular requires certain combinations to kill it.

Last spring I finally stopped taking vitamin D3 regardless of what the stupid level test says. Supplemental vitamin D adds to my anxiety ; I get no benefit out of it. The vitamin D thing was a big deal 10 years ago. There are more and more people that find out they don’t like the fake version of it.

The mechanism appears to be excessive conversion of 25OH-D to 1,25(OH)2-D. This has been suspected for a while, I recall it being mentioned in this video from 6 years ago (about 1:28 in)

I took clarithromycin and it did nothing to bart. I took mepron many times and it didn't cause much herx either.

When I took both together, suddenly I got a herx.

Maybe black walnut (juglone) with clarithromycin has a similar effect?
