Resveratrol standardized % ???

Hello,

I’m taking Japanese Knotweed capsules which a herbalists makes for me. They contain 20mg of Jap Knot standardized to 50% resveratrol which I take 4x3. I’ve run out of them but somebody has given me Jap Knot capsules containing 500mg standardized to 10% resveratrol. I have no clue what the standardized means and the dosages seem so different. Does anybody know how many of the 500mg caps would equate to 4 of the 20mg caps so I’d be taking the same dose?

Sorry! I’ve just realised this question is like one of those really annoying maths ones from school.. if John gives Peter 56 apples and Peter gives 31 back to John, how many apples does Peter have left? :p

its not too tricky

existing resveratrol dose = 20mg x 50% x 4 tablets x 3 per day = 120mg / day

new resveratrol dose = 500mg x 10% x 1 tablet x3 per day = 150mg /day

so 1 tablet 3x a day of the new will give approx the same dose of resveratrol as 4 of the old, assuming labels are correct etc

Wow that’s a huge difference and the 500mg ones a lot more cost effective. The recommended dose of the 500mg’s for Lyme is 4 x 3 also so I’ve only been taking a tiny dose without realising.
