I'm confused about binders. I'm reading about it causing herx's but isn't the main purpose for binders is to bind the toxins that are released from bacteria being killed off? How can a binder cause it if they are binding up the toxins? I'm looking in to Diatomaceous earth for myself as I am worried about Zeolite and it's ability to possibly deplete iron+other nutrients. Any insight into this?

Nowadays, practitioners recommend combo binders like GI Detox or UltraBinder. (Ultrabinder has chitosan, which is derived from shellfish. If you have shellfish allergy, don’t take that one.)

I have never had herxing from GI Detox. I did have some when taking large doses of Pectasol-C. I started with about 1g and went up to 5g. Then, I jumped to 10g and had some kind of herxing. The recommended dose of the product for lead detox was 15g.

I have never heard of charcoal thinning blood.

The only binder that really knocked me for a loop was Cholestyramine (CSM). It’s a very strong binder.

The reason a binder like CSM can cause horrific herxing is it creates an avalanche effect. As it quickly pulls out toxins, more toxins get released from tissues, fat, and organs. Kind of like unclogging a drain that’s been backed up. If you use a very effective drain unclogger, then all the backed-up gunk heads straight for the drain when it gets unclogged and then clogs it up again until you add some more unclogging solution.

When toxins move from one location to another, it creates an avalanche of inflammatory symptoms in some people.

Thanks so much for posting that fact. I'm not currently taking any binders, but that could be in my future again. I'd seen Chitosan mentioned before, but I knew nothing about it and had no idea it was derived from shellfish. I do have a shellfish allergy. Thank you for looking out for folks.
