I also Had intense Pains in my chest and dizziness so I went to the doctors Office today:

- EKG normal
- bloodwork will be ready in a few hours through Phone call

So yeah, gotta keep it goin man

They said that I have pericarditis. Which makes a lot of sense. They also said that I am hyperthyroid and could explain the heart rate going crazy the past 24 hours. I’m glad I went to rule out a heart attack. They said the ekg and chest X-ray and blood work looked okay.

I was SO mad though. They saw bipolar on my chart and immediately told me that I had anxiety and needed to follow up with my psychiatrist. So mad. She didn’t even try. Until I told her that this was NOT anxiety. And then she decided it was pericarditis. I paid $200 for a script for some naproxen. <insert face palm.> she did refer me to a cardiologist that I will probably call today and see if I can get in with. They’re just super hard to see.

But the symptoms do fit both of those diagnoses. Oh well. I guess I have some answers now.

For those of you following this thread, the ER said that I have pericarditis. It’s been 16 days since the first episode, and I’m still struggling. Getting better sometimes, then things trigger pain again. The biggest issues now are extreme fatigue and shortness of breath. I get winded easily still, and still feel so weak and tired most of the day. I drink caffeine to stay upright, but then the caffeine hurts my heart. I have adderall, but I can’t imagine that would be any better for my heart. I’m struggling. I know it will take time. I’m seeing a cardiologist Tuesday and will most likely get an echo done. My Lyme doc’s herbs she sent do help. I can tell a difference when I don’t take them. But things are just kind of poking along getting better. Our bodies take so long to recover from even the smallest inflammation like a scrape on the knee. I can’t imagine how long it will take to heal my heart. Kind of frustrated and discouraged. Thanks for letting me vent. And if you have any experience with pericarditis, I’d love to hear some advice.

they diagnosed you with an infection in the heart and are not putting you on antibiotics immediately?
or do they think its viral pericarditis ?

pericarditis can be serious - i am just v surprised they seem to have discharged you with only some pain killers ....

They didn’t prescribe anything other than naproxen. It was a terrible experience. But I saw my primary care doctor a few days later, and he didn’t say anything about an infection either. Just said some inflammation.

i guess they are just hoping it goes away by itself

but inflammation always has a cause - i would push for more

viral pericarditis does often resolve by itself

if its lyme - there are studies showing that blood tests are typically more likely to be positive for antibodies for lyme when the heart is involved ( vs general chronic lyme cases ) - i guess the body is evolved to make a more significant immune response to infections in the heart
so that is one option

lyme can cause pericarditis and myocarditis - and heart block etc - and medical systems do tend to take lyme carditis seriously if diagnosed - as it is a recognised life threatening condition
