1, the symptoms of herx are typically the same as the illness - herx usually just makes the usual symptoms worse and sometimes adds more - there isnt really any definitive way to know which is which.
but bear in mind - response to treatment is not necessarily going to be linear - there may be ups and downs - good days or weeks and bad days or weeks. its a long term treatment journey - measured in many months so try not to stress about a week up or down - measure the trend over a number of months.
i measure how many hours i sleep, how many jobs i got done each day, how fast i was able to complete my daily walk and how much exercise i was able to do - combine these and chart them - it gives an objective measure of how i am doing - and i often surprise myself that i am doing better objectively than i thought - compare to my day to day subjective feelings of how i am doing ( subject to mood, thoughts, frustration, optimism or pessimism etc )
2, cipro is a powerful and broad spectrum antibiotic that hits almost all infection in the lyme complex - yes it could definitely have caused a herx
3, bart is know for pain syndromes and neuropathies - it can cause pain anywhere - the groin is not uncommon
