hard to be sure from a single event like the RW - but i defo react to some foods this way
however, its not likely to be an allergic reaction - actual allergic reactions to foodstuffs typically result in things like mouth or face swelling, difficulty breathing, skin rashes etc - and tend to be v serious
but it could be a type of sensitivity - not mediated by the IgE system that food allergies typically are - but by some other, less severe effect
it could be by mast cells - or some other mechanism to do with the gut and the immune system
i have long theorised that in people with lyme - we actually have an over reaction to our own gut bacteria - as a result of our dysregulated immune system and leaky gut that is often present.
in my case anything that adds more gut bacteria ( probiotics), feeds existing bacteria ( prebiotics) or kills gut bacteria ( antimicrobials - even the ones that stay in the gut ) seems to cause a flare of symptoms like fatigue, body aches etc - which is what initially lead me to believe this may be the case.
in your case - your dose was very small - but flaxseed is high in prebiotic fibre - which feeds gut bacteria - so that could fit with this explanation.
some people can be very sensitive to these effects - especially if there are signs the immune system is very dysregulated
its the reason i changed to a Ketogenic diet - less carbs equals less gut bacteria in general - and this seems to take a load off my immune system so it can focus on helping fight the infections better. at least this is why i think it helps so much. Was a complete game changer for my ex.
