I have been on DHE for a few years as an abortive since the triptans have not worked for me. DHE works about 50% of the time which sucks but it's better than nothing. I have a quick question though--- Have any of you have have used DHE found it to be helpful if you already have a full blown headache when give as a SubQ injection?

I called my doctor today and I guess he's not there this week, but the PA told me to try my DHE again today and then if it doesn't work to call them on Monday when my Doctor is in. Well, I've NEVER had ANY luck with taking the DHE after the migraine has started except when given in IV form in the hospital, but does this work for other people? I have headaches that can last up to 30 days and can't find anything to get rid of them once they get started. Thanks!

Over here in the UK DHE is usually given by infusion 2 or 3 times per day for five days requiring a hospital stay! This usually gives the sufferer a pain break and calms things down for a while. Unfortunately it requires repeating, but the effects of repeated infusions can have a cumulative effect thus giving the sufferer a longer break each time!

I've done the infusions also, they Neuro I am currently seeing does the infusions outpatient and pretty much knocks ya out with ativan too so you can go home and sleep, they follow a plan called the coddon sleep treatment, but I haven't had much success with that either, my headaches let up but only for about a day or two. I'm wondering if anyone has been able to stop a migraine with 1 or 2 shots of DHE subQ which is the abortive medication that I'm on. My doctor seems to think this will work even though it never has for me previously. Thanks for your comment though!
