hi all, I'm just recovering from a migraine and so depressed.  Haven't had one for over a year and really thought I'd grown out of them (38 now, started when I was 24).

Does anyone else have hemiplegic/asphasic symptoms.. I scared my children this morning.  Couldn't control my right hand side or my speech.  In the past I took some drugs for a few months to stop them (they worked), used to get them weekly or more.

How do you cope?  Couldn't ring in work, can't dial numbers, choose letters for texting.. can't read or speak, but do understand.  It's so terrifying.  Just coping with pain and sickness now... will they ever stop?

Hi,

I am a sufferer of hemiplegic migraines and experience all the symptoms that you have mentioned. I have tried all the meds but thankfully I am now seeing a headache specialist in London and he has been fantastic. I don't know what meds you've tried but I am currently taking Gabapentin and Flunarazine in combination and as a result I have not had a full blown hemiplegic migraine since February last year. This is the longest I have ever been without an attack, when I was suffering from one every 6 to 8 weeks and each attack lasting up to 12 days.

I don't believe myself cured and always know that there is the possibility that they may return.

I am sorry to hear about your suffering Kala & hemiaplegic-
have you guys had a MRI of the brain and ruled out the possibility of a stroke? What about a echo of your heart to rule out a small hole called a PFO, that could be causing your headaches? are either of you taking birth control pills?

thanks for reply.  Yes, had all that about 14 years ago when first started.  couldnt completely rule out hole in heart (ultrasound) but v. small if there.  Feeling much better now, just a really bad one.  It's worse for people around and of course its embarassing!  Husband knows and is quite good at ignoring me :-) and letting me sleep it off.

I have had numerous MRI scans and other investigations all in order to help with my diagnosis. However, I have not an echo of my heart to rule out a PFO. I have never been allowed birth control pills due to the additional risk of this causing a stroke.

I must admit that I find it very embarrassing as I am completely off the planet and my perception of what is happening is very different to reality. Like you hemiplegic I too have to sleep it off but sometimes the pain can be so severe that it isn't possible to sleep.

However, I haven't had a full blown attack now for 11 months, which is totally fantastic but like I said previously I am not complacent and so know that there is always a chance that they may return.

Also, I suffer from chronic daily migraines and experience episodes of hemiplegia but these episodes are nothing like my 'normal' hemiplegic migraines because I still have my faculties and so am fully aware of what is happening. Thus, I am able to cope with this.
