Hello All, I'm a desperate, 34 year old male who is down on my knees and praying for relief. I have been suffering from a constant headache for over 4 months now (regular headaches for over 5 years) and have tried many things with no relief thus far. My headaches range from 5 - 6 up to 8 - 9 throughout the day, with an occasional 9 - 10 day that will leave me completely debilitated and close to or actually with tears. Historically, I rarely, if ever, miss work and I have already missed 4 days of work this year and have canceled numerous work and vacation trips. I also believe that my headaches are continuing throughout the night as I've had several recurring dreams about
being stabbed in the head with swords and dreams about
being in small, short ceiling houses and repeatedly hitting my head. I most recently flew home early yesterday from a convention in Las Vegas because I was in such blinding pain, I couldn't even stand up. I have spent over $4000 out of pocket and over $13,000 when combined with my insurer's contributions so far in 2009. I will list everything I have tried, thus far without success, below:
General Doctor (prescribed Fiorecet and tension headache neck exercises)
Sinus Specialist
Sinus CT Scan (results negative)
Chiropractor (neck and electro stimulation)
Neurologist (2 visits - prescribed amitriptylene, fiorecet, midrin on 1st visit / dropped amitriptylene and prescribed topomax 2nd visit) I just started the Topamax 3 days ago at 15 mg and will increase to 30 mg in 10 days then to 45 mg in 20 days - I'm very scared about the potential side effects I've been reading about.
Fiorecet & Midrin did nothing for me and I've stopped their use
Brain CT Scan
Brain MRI (Regular and DYE - results negative)
Full Blood Analysis
Accupuncture (6 sessions with electro stimulation)
Sprayed house and crawl space for mold
Daily Neck stretches
Dental Sleep Device - Anti - Teeth Grind
Anti Snore Headwear
Neproxin/Ipuprofen (they do nothing for me and I've stopped their use)
Avoid foods with MSG
Cut back on Caffeine/Coffee
Over the last 4 months, I have truly come to appreciate the relatively good health I've had in the past and truly understand when people say to not take your health for granted...or when older people say "at least you have your health". I spend most free time reading online about headaches and what people are doing to deal with them. It is very sad and depressing reading, but it makes me know that I'm not alone. I also want people out there to know they're not alone and that there are people, like me, who are suffering with them.
The last few days at the ICSC convention in Vegas made me very sad and feel alone because I was surrounded by people who were happy and wanted to go out and have a good time. All I could do was try to get through my meetings and all but crawl back to my room to lay down in bed in my dark room. I finally made the decision to cancel my remaining meetings and fly home early and now here I am.
Can anyone offer any advice or help?
Thank you all in advance.
Jake
