Sorry this post is a bit on the long side but I wanted to give all the details I could.
I am a 19 year old community college student, and i've been getting these really bad Migraines that nothing gets rid of. I sought out a doctor she put me on 500mg Naproxins and they do didly squat. I take them with food, lots of water, twice a day, same time, does nothing. I've tried taking them when I find my supposed trigger, does nothing. I can't pin down my trigger at all, as all my migraines are either very very random or occur in my sleep.
Most of them happen when im sleeping, wake me up and I cannot do a thing about it. I got one in the mall today which just started out of nowhere, I think I might have actually caught the trigger today but I have no clue really. I was just getting money from an ATM machine, walked to the food court to buy a drink. I noticed that my left eye began to throb a little, and started to water outta nowhere, I rubbed it away and went and sat down to wait for 2 friends. It kept getting progressively worse, it didn't hurt much at first by about a couple minutes later, I came to the realization I was going to get a bad migraine, and I was right. Lasted for about 3 hours, I had a small nap in between that 3 hours.
Most of my migraines last as long as they like too. Because of this i've been missing classes, and falling behind in school cuz I can' tmake it with a really bad headache, its a real pain in the backside. They occur on the left side of my head, and feels like someones poking the crap outta my brain or just squeezing it. I think it may be linked to sinus problems as I notice I have a stuffy nose during most of them, and it hurts to sniff, not like smell but you know when you have a runny nose, you sniff it up? I can't describe it to well I think you know what I mean, we all do it.
When i have one I basically lay down in a dark room, sometimes it hurts to much to sit still and take it, well actually thats most of hte time. I've had migraines last an entire day, but the very shortest is probably about 3 hours. I have tried a multitude of things, taking my prescribed meds, taking motrin around the clock, Tylenols, Acetaminophens, and Exedrin(which i only did once after finding out about rebound heachaches cuz of the caffein). I've changed my diet a bit, I don't drink soda or anything with caffeine anymore, I make sure to always have at least something in my stomach to avoid feeling hungry, I drink water and stay hydrated. I just can't figure it out.
I know this is a bit of a mini essay, and im sorry it is so long, but i wanted to be as detailed as possible. What do you advice I do? I was told my my doc that you gotta take the pills at the right time to catch the migraine and prevent the pain, but how do I when im asleep? I'd call her but the doctors office I went to is small and local, I wouldn't be able to get an appointment with her in months. I was considering seeing another doctor at the same office, should I? My freind suggested taking me to the hospital and get a MRI i think its called(brain scan) to try and find the source.
Any suggestions from you all? I am all outta ideas for what to take for the pain, i've been considering smoking some weed, im not normally a smoker and was trying to avoid it, but the pain can sometimes get unreal, i'll do almost anything to get rid of htis problem. Its been lasting going on 2 months. When I was a kid I used to get headaches from tiem to time, around the age of 12, but never this severe, they stopped for the rest of my teenage life until now, these make a headache feel like nothing. So any ideas?
