Anyone try indomethacin?

My doc and I are trying yet another medication. I get "ice pick" like headaches in my right temple and he suggested this one. Anyone tried this....what were your thoughts on it?

Hi Krista,

Indomethacin is the drug to treat 'Ice Pick' headaches, I get them too as part of my Hemicrania Continua! When I was on Indomethacin to treat my HC it also got rid of the 'Ice Picks' too!!

My neurologist started me on 50mg indomethacin years ago as a rescue medicine for my migraines and tension headaches. I was told that I could use it in conjunction with the triptans, but not tylenol or aleve. It works about as much as any of the rescue medicines seem to work for me, which might be 40-50% of the time.

I tried indomethacin because my neuro suspected hemicrania continua - he wanted to use it as a diagnostic tool, since indo completely cures HC. Unfortunately, it just gave me a wicked stomachache. I suggest always taking it with food, but even that didn't help me. I stopped it immediately after it didn't do a thing for my headache.

Thanks to everyone for their responses....and thanks to the "indomethacin" for making my headaches a LOT less "tooth-pickish".

I have finally had relief, what I have had to is take an indo when feeling the eye/throb pain in my temple immediately upon arrival of it coming on. Sometime it immediately subsides.......(well by immediately I mean about 10-15 minutes....but that's good for me)!!.....otherwise it's about a couple of hours.

But I'm living again......just as long as I can keep movin forward I'm keepin the hope alive!!!

I'm hanging in there...thankfully I'm having more good days than bad with the headaches....now if I could only beat this awful vertigo!! YUCK!!  I don't drink alcohol and I will be sitting...or lying down and suddenly without any "notice" I feel like I'm about six sheets to the wind and can't even hold my head up I'm so dizzy and nauseated.....but as with these dang headaches....this too has gotta get better....right.....right?  HA!!

First let me say that I am not a Dr.
I have tried indocin as well, it didnt help at all with the headache but i did learn that if it were HC then you should have TOTAL relief not just partial relief from the indocin. I have been told that I have NDPH, i am being seen at the Cleveland CLinic for it and so far so good. As for the stomache aches with the indocin if you take prilosec with it or the generic omeprezol (not sure on the spelling) once a day it should take care of it.

Yes! It was a miracle drug for me! It no longer helps me but I used to love it. I would take it just when I started to get a headache and then I would not need my relpax. Or if I had waited too long I would take it with my relplax it would totally knock out my migraine. I was first given it when I went to the Cleveland clinic when I was having daily headaches. I took it for a while then my headaches stopped and were only a few times a month.
