Strange visual imbalances a day or so before my migraines start ... anyone else get these?

Hi.

I've had migraines for approximately 18 years and it's only recently that I've connected the two things together. This is going to sound really weird but I get this really strange thing that happens with my vision... if I'm focusing at say a persons face it will quite suddenly zoom into macro focus and seem to be just millimetres from my nose and stay that way for a few seconds and then just as quickly zoom out again so it looks as though they are standing a mile away from me. Just seconds later it will zoom in again and then back out of focus again. This will happen for approximately 10 - 15 minutes and all the while I keep having to refocus my eyes to adapt my line of vision.

It's not painful but very disconcerting and a bit alarming!

It happens maybe once or twice a month, at no particular time and my optician can find no reason for it and thinks it may be linked to my migraines.

Does anyone else experience anything like this?

I've started to keep a diary of when this happens and it seems to be in the days before a migraine starts so there seems to be a link.

Hi,

I get similar disturbances sometimes when I'm lying in bed, sometimes even quite colorful not always connected directly with a migraine, other times a flash of light before one starts. I also have had my vision checked by an opthomologist. I think it's all part of the long list of migraine symptoms. I also have pulsing in my head almost all the time. Fascinating if it weren.t accompanied by painful migraine headaches.

Try seeing a Neurologist

Hi,

Welcome to Healing Well. It sounds like some sort of Aura to me which often happens as a warning or comes alongside a migraine attack. Auras can take different forms, but I am not a Doc, and would suggest that you see a Neurologist who is a Headache Specialist to get an appropriate diagnosis. Let us know how you get on?

Thanks for all your replies. It sounds like I'm not the only one getting these and that's good to know. I have an appointment with a neurologist fairly soon so I'll metion it then and see what she has to say.

Hi,

My attacks always start with my vision affected,  get a grey area like a large fuzzy spot, effects both eyes, if I am looking at anyone cannot see one of thier eyes, same if watching the TV, cannot see part of the screen, this usually can last from 10-30 minutes, I then get a numbness in one or other of my hands for some 15mins, sometimes just 2-3 fingers, or my hand does not feel as though it is there,  although I can still use the hand, then the head ache kicks in.

Also from the start always feel confused, cannot seem to consentrate or read, this I find very unnerving,  on a good day my attacks can be over in a matter of 20 mins, or can last up to a couple of hours, I can sometimes go a few monthe between, or then again can get 2-3 a month.

Still there are a lot of people out there, a lot worse of than myself.
