first, sorry if this is in the wrong section, i didn't know where else to put it.
ok a little background on the issue...
my girlfriend has been able to pop her neck by moving it forward or backward, without even trying. it just pops. well 2 weeks ago, she popped it (after me always telling her she needs to be careful because that doesn't sound right). after she popped it, she said she had shooting pain in her head and down her neck. she said her neck was a little tingly and her vision was going out slowly. i started to massage her neck and forehead and the pain went away within a few minutes.
since then, she has been having blackouts, but only if her posture is bad (at a desk looking down, laying on her back with her head propped up or even having her neck propped back). i took her to the doctor on friday to have her checked up. they did an x-ray and turns out she has straight spine (very very little or no curvature of her spine). the doctor gave her a neck brace to use mostly when sleeping and it does help her neck stay stable. he said she's passing out because, since her spine is straight, when she bends it in those bad postures it strains the muscle which is causing them to swell thus restricting blood flow (thats why i can get the pain to go away just by massaging her neck for a minute or two).
my concern is this..
i notice that when she gets these headaches from her neck, she gets very very sleepy just about
immediately, then passes out without warning. most of the time i can get her to wake up easily just by shaking her arm a little, but other times i have to grab her and get her whole body to sit upright and keep shaking her and calling her before she wakes up. when she passes out, i don't know if she's breathing. i can't tell by looking at her. when someone passes out, they are still breathing correct?
a thought:
since i am able to wake her up each time it happens, doesn't that mean that her brain is in fact working fine and she is breathing? (just making her passing out because the brain knows theres a limited amount of oxygen so it "shuts her off" until it can replenish??)
i'm concerned because she's going to be alone for the next 3 or 4 weeks at night and i don't want her to pass out if she's not breathing.
