Is it safe to inject myself with lidocaine?

I have had severe head pain for 3 years consistantly. Not a minute has gone by where I am not in pain. I've tried everthing. I have had some lidocaine injections at the doctor and they will greatly reduce the pain for a day maybe a bit longer. I have searched around the internet and it does look like lidocaine is easy to get. Ranging about $7 a bottle. It being legal or not, really is not of any concern to me. Its either break the law or not live my life. I just can't affored the payment or time to visit the doctor 4 times a week.

If I stay under the max dosage would it be safe to inject lidocaine into my forehead and neck daily or every other day? Would any doctor write me a prescription? This may sound extreme but I don't have a life right now.

Hi there, I really do know how you're feeling. I have ON, (Occipital Neuralgia), TMJ (Temporo mandibular Joint Disorder) MFPD (Myofacial Pain Disorder) I feel like I've been whacked in the back of the neck with a baseball bat, The pain is 24/7. I have shooting pains and an inflamed feeling all over the head. A clickety clack jaw and sore eyes. Not pretty. I really empathize with you.

For home use, some people are prescribed lidocaine injection medication and syringes. The most common reason for this prescription is to treat a source of chronic pain, which sounds like you are a candidate for this method. The medication may be effective in this respect, but it can sometimes be easy to overdose and use too much. When this occurs people should get to a doctor and watch for any signs of potential overdose like strong pain in the chest or changes in heart rhythm. I suggest you talk to your doctor who gave you the injections and see if this is an option suitable for you. I've had this combined with cortisone injections but only had very short term relief. Like 2 hours.

Hey buddy,

I as well really understand your pain. BE CAREFUL injecting things into your head. There is the simple risk of infection, hitting another nerve, etc. Have you exhausted all other options including narcotic pain relievers? Seems to me like sticking yourself in the head when in severe pain may not be the greatest idea. I'm not trying to say don't do it, just be extremely careful. Everyone always thinks it can't get worse, but trust me no matter where you are, it can always get worse. Have you tried strong pain killers because if you haven't I would definitely pursue something oral, or a nasal spray or even an injection of pain meds from a nurse than sticking a needle in my own head. I find narcotics can take away a lot of the pain, sometimes all and sometimes only a little but definitely better than nothing and better than creating unnecessary risk. Let me know how that works out for you.
