New Daily Persistent Headache

Hi Everyone,

I just joined this forum after reading through many of the members posts over the last months.  It is wonderful how you exchange information and support.  I am the mom of a teenage boy whose life has been dramatically altered by this headache for going on three years.  He has NDPH and we have tried so many meds, blocks, acupuncture etc. and nothing has worked.  He is currently seeing Todd Rozen since this past summer.  We went to several neurologists before getting the diagnosis.  Dr. Rozen is a kind and compassionate physician who we were lucky to find.  My son is scheduled to be hospitalized in a few days at Jefferson.  He is anxious and doubtful about the treatment.  The plan is iv dhe and lidocaine.  Can anyone offer any experience with either or both of these so I can better support him through this?

Thank you for the response and thread.  I will let you know how his inpatient at Jefferson goes.

It is so easy to get discouraged but as long as we still have things to try, there is still hope.

Most people try to be nice but they just don't understand when you tell them that the headache is present 24/7.

I just wanted to let you know that I feel like you are doing the right thing. I am young (19), and do not know much about this problem, however, you mentioned that you are going to Jefferson and I think that is great! I am working for an International company right now (co-op experience for college of nursing) that sends international patients to hospitals in the Philadelphia area. Jefferson is our top hospital, and we actually recently sent someone there for headaches (she has a different issue), but the patient was quite pleased. I am just hoping that this post gives you some optimism, especially if we are in fact speaking of the same hospital! :).

Thanks for the response.  It is good to know that you think so highly of Jefferson.  We actually put off his hospitalization until school is out.  It is what he wants to do.  I think he was feeling like when he goes he just wants to be focused on that instead of worring about school.

I forgot to ask you about the methadone, how long is it supposed to take before you can expect any relief?
