Hello everyone my name is amanda and I have suffered from chronic daily migraines for 5 years now. They started when I was 16 and am now 21 with a fiancee and an 18 month old. Every day is a struggle, being that I get a migraine within sometimes minutes of waking up. I've been on every medicine out there and am now trying a repetion of them starting with topamax. I am in EXTREME pain every day. My neurologist wants me to now try acupuncture and botox. We are in the process of trying to convince my insurance it is medically necessary so they will cover it. Has anyone had luck with these procedures? I've tried every triptan and nsaids and nothing works. My dr refuses to give me any pain medicine so im miserable all day everyday. I feel this isn't fair to my fiancee or my child. Please pray for me because I need all the prayers I can get. Its so nice to finally talk to people who can relate to how I feel.

Why no pain meds? Can you get a second opinion on that decision? To expect you to make it through extreme pain day after day is in my opinion inappropriate. There are many people who have seen a reduction with botox.......praying that the insurance company will agree to give it a try! Keep us posted!

Pain medication can actually make things worse. I was taking pain medication to control my headaches to but the doctors suspected what it was doing was actually escalating my background headaches and making me more sensitive and setting off more migraines that way. I came off it for about a year and it hasn't made much difference and have just got permission to start using aspirin at the start of an attack from my new neurologist. But many people use pain medication in the wrong way, taking it to mask the pain instead of at the start of the attack to try and prevent the attack and then just waiting the attack through once its in full swing. There is nothing you can be given for the pain, I've asked as I'm in a similar situation. Only the preventatives that they give you are a sort of pain relief medication (e.g. Amitriptyline), though often for migraines they don't work in that way as well as they do when administered for the other illnesses and sicknesses they are used for.

Hi Amanda - so sorry to hear you are having such a tough time. Just want to let you know that I am thinking of you and praying for you - strong prayer through the word of God (KJV). I don't know if this forum will allow me to speak plainly (have never been on a forum before) but the word of God spoken in faith is the answer. Romans 10:17 says Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever which means healing is for today. I have been healed of my body being shorter on one side than the other, which included my flat feet being healed at the same time. Also healed of uterine tumours and ovarian cycsts which completely baffled the specialist at the time and the radiologist told me to stop wasting her time as there were plenty of sick people to see! This hemiplegic migraine condition is something else though and it turns out that at 57 I have had this all my life, getting progressively worse. When I had the biggest event I thought it was caused through menopause but on looking back through the years I can confirm that it has been around a long time. I put up with it because I thought it was caused through menopause but now that I know the truth I will be applying the word of God until healing manifests. You see it's all about our faith and the realisation that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. What I did was read the bible (which was a big ask for me as my father banned it from the house growing up) and asked God to show me the way to healing. I had a revelation and that was - greater is he (the Holy Spirit) in me than he that is in the world (the devil - the author of sickness, disease, poverty, sin). In other words, when Jesus Christ became Lord of my life, the power operating in me was greater than sickness, disease etc. It was an amazing moment when I "got" the scripture - God has not given me a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Will keep praying for you.
