Hi FairyFaye,
All narcotics are at least physically habit forming. I have had to use narcotics on a daily basis to be able to survive day to day with my chronic heads with migraine since almost none of the medication out there works for me and narcotics are the only ones that do any good. I don’t know how familiar you are with Dilaudid, but it has been the best narcotic to deal with my pain over the last 5 years. I am currently on again 4mg pills of Dilaudid to take when needed. If you have never taken the medication, I just want to warn you that it is VERY strong and nicknamed drugstore heroin. Doctors vary on the exact strength of the drug, but agree it is between 7-10 times stronger than morphine. At one point, I was using 100mg extended release morphine pills twice a day and using oxycodone to tide me over when it fades out and I still find the Dilaudid a better drug.
Here are just a few warnings. I have been hooked on Dilaudid a couple of times and had to go through a pretty rough withdrawal to get off of it. I have had to do this with other narcotics and it is never a good time if you have never been through it. Plus, Dilaudid causes people to itch because it is so strong. If you end up taking it daily, then that will eventually go away. I don’t know if you can take morphine or fentanyl or something like that first before you move up to the Dilaudid. My suggestion first would be to try something else first, then switch to Dilaudid if you don’t have a choice or just use the Dilaudid as an abortive.
If you need any more information or just want to chat about drugs or anything else, just drop me a line. I’ll be glad to share my stories with you.
I hope you feel better and that something works out for you.
Peace.
Michelle
