new migrainer

Hi,

I, too, suffer from vertigo as one of my migraine symptoms, but I don't actually get a headache. My neurologist said it is most likely a migraine because it slowly progresses where if it was due to a seizure it would be sudden. MRIs on my neck and brain showed everything normal.

My vertigo can start from change in pressure of the room such as the act of turning on the air conditioner, certain room heaters, or change in weather. I've only had two spells that lasted for weeks, but when they did I could hear my heartbeat in my ear. Sometimes I would hear ringing. I've never felt the "fullness."

There is also meniere's disease. Google it and see if it might fit you, but it would not explain the blurred vision or stiff neck.

I get confused, high energy, bumbling speech, right side slight numbness and muscle ache, blurred vision, vision disturbances (bright floaties, stripped wallpaper on the wall waving like water), Novocaine like numbness in my fingertips, digestive problems, and stiff neck.

Edit to add: I take meclizine as a rescue for the vertigo. It works most of the time. My new neurologist put me on nortripyline as a preventative. I did take amitriptyline and topamax as a preventative, but they did not work.

Try Chiropractic care...I have seen great results with my chiropractor for migraine. Also, MRI, X-ray and/or cat scans do not show nerve damage. I only mention that in case you have had an injury that might be the culprit.

I am sorry to hear that. Although, now that whiplash is suspected. I want to strongly urge you to visit a chiropractor. It takes time and multiple visits but you can find relief.....drug-free. Which reminds me. Be so wary of any pain or preventative migraine or headache medication. They will cause the headache to rebound and that becomes its own nightmare. I speak from experience. I also now understand that when you are experiencing head pain from a neck or brain trauma that it is different from a classic migraine and won't respond to treatment that you find in the neurologists office...in other words drugs. My methods of drug-free pain relief are: Chiropractic/Cranio-Sacral Massage Therapy 2 to 3 times a week - All natural/organic chinese herbs and nutritional supplements as recommended by a health professional - Eating all natural/ organic foods and staying away from known headache triggers - meditating - Yoga on a semi regular schedule ;) - and therapy as needed to help with decreasing life's stresses. I have been using these methods for three years now after tapering off of all the prescriptions/ over the counters and caffeine I was using. All of these will cause rebound and refractory headache. It was scary to make that leap but I am so glad I did. I hope any of this helps!! I am speaking from 9 years of personal pain and experience... thanks for your info susan 578, I drink a lot of tea,  always have so i dont think it would be my trigger and to tell the truth I,m not sure it is migraine, if so ive had one for 2 weeks constant but not enough to stop me working, everyone else seems to suffer far more than me!

 does anyone else feel they have been misdiagnosed or am i just avoiding the migraine diagnosis?

hi susan 578 you are right , it is your body and you want to make sure its getting the best help but Ive been going back to docs  all last year and now referred to neuro , feels like i,m questioning them all the time  , they might feel that I wont be helped. I have to pick up prescription for amatriptiline? 1 a day for the forseable future but I really dont want to take medication for life( and the side efects they might bring!) I wiil tell doc this and see if I can try a diifrent approach, possilbly feverfew? thanks for your thoughts on the subject, think its going to be a long process!

Thanks again for your experiences, That nortriptline sounds interesting, heard me, sound like a fully trained neuro! What I mean is Im looking for a treatment that as as little side effects as possible so any info in that direction is appreciated.Good luck with your treatment and good health for the future, no doubt I,ll be on this on this forum again soon looking for answers!
