The background about 6 weeks ago,, my healthy, athletic, daughter had these sharp bilateral pains in her temples lasting from 20 secs to maybe 2 or 3 min. These occurred several times a day, she didn't tell me about them until January 30th when she said they were coming all the time. They would shoot a stabbing knife like pain, then stop and there would be residual pain would occur every 5 to 8 minutes thoughout the day. She was able to sleep, in fact that was her only time without pain.
I took her to her PCP on the Tuesday 31st, she recommended motrin. Dr did test for mono, lyme**, cbc etc..all normal..by Weds pain still unbearable, took to local e.r. gave her neurological workup all negative(no mri given) and given fioricet which provided NO relief. Next morning off to see neurologist..he diagnosed atypical migraine..prescribed nortiptolyne and prednisone..after taking prednisone..her pain went to constant never ended.I took her to childrens hospital Boston on Friday..they gave her toradol..brought pain to 8 from 10..mri given..negative..lumbar puncture..negative..admitted her for 24 hours..sent her home with prescription for nortriptolyne and take motrin. Since February 4th, she has had constant bilateral pain from temple to temple including forehead with occasional stabbing.
Nothing is working, she has gone to an optholomologist, chiropractor (who said her neck was out of alignment, he did a correction and her pain shot back up to a 10..a dentist,(she does have impacted molars but doesn't think that could cause the pain
since they have a way to go) She had dessiminated lyme in 2006..
She had an episode of syncope where she blacked out in the bathroom and occasional bouts of dizzyness when getting up from a sitting position. I have contacted a cardiologist and an ENT and awaiting appointments. She has seen a therapist and they don't think this is psychological...
Any ideas..suggestions..thank you all in advance
