3rd episode of migraine associated vertigo in 4 weeks---feeling desperate!

I have been having migraine associated vertigo for 4 years.  Episodes typically last 3-5 days and are spaced 6-10 months apart.  I spend the time in bed mostly sleeping.

In the past 4 weeks I have had 3 attacks.  My neuro has had me try migranal, this has provided hardly any relief.  He thinks that I wait to long to take the first dose.  I have been waiting about an hour.  I think I am always hoping that it is something else and not the vertigo coming back.

Today he has prescribed ativan.  One 0.5mg pill every 6 hours.  Not sure what this is suppose to do for me...other than make me sleep.

Anyone with experience with MAV I would so appreciate hearing about your experiences.

Also, what is the right was to take the migranal and has anyone found it helpful?

I have tried migranal nasal spray and it didn't work for me as well as a combination of imitrex/naproxen/klonopin. Ativan is a benzodiazepian. It is used to help anxiety. The only bad things with benzos is that you to be careful since they are habit forming and require doctors care to withdraw from.

Has your Neuro prescribed you any triptans? Triptans are beneficial as long as you don't take them more than 1-2 times a week since they can cause rebounding.

If you are having a particularly bad attack you can go to your local hospital and they can give you an IV infusion of toradol, reglan and a narcotic. This will help break the cycle.

Healthy do you ever get ringing in your ears with your vertigo? I don't have the vertigo, but recently have been getting ringing in my ears, most the left ear. I think this is just another symptom of a migraine. I have chronic daily migraines, was just concerned with a new symptom going on. See my neurologist March 14th. Best of luck to you!

Somebody with Vertigo! I was beginning to think I was the only one. I've had migraines off and on since I was in H.S. but the Vertigo just kicked in after a 2-month vomiting spree that could be caused from ulcers or food allergies or both. I actually hadn't had a migraine in about 6months untill this happened and now there back and the vertigo is always hovering in the background. My balance is always off now, I get ringing in my ears sporadically and I will sometines start to feel a vertigo attack if i turn my head to the side too fast. I hadn't even connected the migraines because I have the dizziness and ringing even when I don't have a migraine. I was just so thrilled to find someone with the same issues as me. My neurologist has promised to send me to a Vertigo specialist if he can't figure it out, so fingers crossed. Hope you are having some success. Angie
