My husband has been battling migraines for years. He has tried just about every medicine out there. Fiorinal with codine is the only thing that helps and oddly enough if he takes it with Pepsi it works faster. Not Coke, Pepsi. Anyway, recently he had a really bad one that lasted a couple of days and suddenly he has double vision. He went to the local ER and they couldn't find anything wrong. He went to our eye doctor and she didn't see anything. He saw a neurologist and had an MRI which showed nothing. The neurologist said he might have had an occipital stroke and that it should resolve itself in about 6 weeks. This is week 3 and he has a terrible headache every day and his vision is worse in the morning but is bad all day. So any ideas on what we do now??????

I'm sorry to hear your husband is going through all this! I have had migraines for 2 years. (Diagnosed as chronic daily migraine). Besides the fiorinal with codine.. may i ask.. what other preventatives and abortives has he tried? I may not be as familiar with why the double vision is happening but I might be able to provide a list of meds that you could mention to the doctor. Also, if you haven't already I recommend finding a neurologist who specializes in head pain. I can forward you a link of head pain specialists that breaks it up by state. Sometimes it's difficult to figure out which type of doctor to see since the symptoms can be all over the place Best Wishes

I tried a lot of abortive medications for my migraines and it took months to find something that worked. Eventually I opted for Pristiq as a preventative because I thought it would help my depression and it has worked for both purposes. Has he tried an antidepressant?

Have you ever heard of ocular migraines, or migraines with aura?? I get those. I get all kinds of visual effects, the longest it has lasted is about 4/5 hours, then cleared. You can have silent migraines with aura, sounds nuts, huh??? shocked

I will hurt in my temple, then it travels to the corner of my forehead, then to my eyeball, sometimes to my nasal passage, my jaw and teeth. I have had it in the back of my neck, to travel the back of my head, left to right....odd. I was taking Depakote 1,000 mg., but stopped to see if it helped my tremors ( I have essential tremor). It did not. I now take Topamax. I hated taking those "horse pills" anyway.

I hope he gets better!

I forgot..............before I went to the doctor, this was a daily, all day thing!! Not so much the vision, but the strange headaches. blush
