My husband was just diagnosed with vestibular migraines today. He has been having dizziness, nausea,sensitivity to light, feels like his balance is off and weakness to his legs. An occasional sharp pain to head and fullness to the right side of head. MRI and balance test by ENT where normal. He prescribed effexor 25mg daily. Does anyone out there have any tips which have helped . He has had this for over a month and is a forklift driver so they won't let him work right now for fear of hurting someone. Please help

My daughter has vestibular migraines and she takes a low level of elavil which seems to help some. Does he know what his triggers are? My daughter had problems with motion sickness growing up and things that triggered it like riding in the back of the car can trigger her migraines. Also, moving her head too quickly, busy patterns and seeing quick motions can trigger her migraines. It may take awhile for the effexor to make a difference. I know how frustrating it can be to not be able to work and I hope the meds help soon. L

Hi thanks for the reply. No he isn't sure what his triggers are yet although bright light and moving his head too quick makes him nauseated. I'm hoping the effexor helps too but in the meantime I'm going to make an appt with the neurologist. He wants to get back to work and feeling better. Did your daughter go to therapy? And if so did it help.

Just to clarify - is it the ent that diagnosed the migraines? It should be a neurologist that makes that determination especially since migraines are a rule-out diagnosis. My daughter also saw a neuro-opthamologist who ruled out other types of disorders. If lights are an issue he could try wearing sunglasses to help keep that trigger to a minimum. You asked if my daughter went to therapy - what kind? I see you are in Illinois - you might want to research the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago - they have a good reputation.

Yes it was an ent doctor after doing a balance test and MRI. Of course he did testing for ear infections or problems too. Thanks for the suggestion I'm about an hour away so I'm going to look them up and see if I can get it to them. He has been wearing sunglasses and it does help. He doesn't get headaches very often his main concern is the dizziness, nausea, and loss of balance ESP since he is a forklift driver that uses the kind that you stand and drive instead of sit and drive. I heard vestibular therapy is a possibility for balance strengthening
