I sympathize with you.
I was only dx'd with Basilar Migraines in April this year, 2012.
Prior to that, I was going to my doctor and ER for pain stemming from the top of my neck and forward to my sinuses, eyes, cheeks and ears. I was nauseous nearly every night around 3am until 11am whem I could start eating food.
I had no idea that I was having Migraines. I merely thought it was from old injuries to my neck and chronic muscle spasms which I also do have. But taking the Sumatriptan worked at first. I mean the first few weeks to a month.
After that, I was scribed Val Proic Acid and Cyproheptadine. The VLP is quite acidic. I must take it on a solid full stomach or I get acid burn. And, it made me gain 15-17 pounds because all of a sudden after not being able to eat well for years, I could not stop eating. I was craving cheese and proteins and I had a lot of carbs around the house such as spaghetti.
So, basically... my appetite has been curbed after so many months but it does seem that my Migraines stimulate weird food cravings... The last one, this week, I was craving donuts. Then I had a severe attack. I took my Sumatriptan when I felt the Migraine coming with the dizzyness and some hfacial tingling. It seemed to work on Monday but on Tuesday, the Migraine slammed me. Although I took the Sumatriptan, I had so much dizzyness and nausea that I had to vomit. After, vomitting, I came home, slept a few hours. I still felt as nauseous but I remembed that I had Promethethzine for Motion Sickness and Nausea. I have had Motion Sickness since being in a major car accident over 25yr ago.
Even though I had taken my Prophalactics and Sumatriptan, this Migraine went right through those barriers. I say this because I have been reading about people who have either a low tollerance to their medications or the meds only work for a percentage of the time.
My symptoms were: vertigo, nausea, hands burning starting Monday, face, nose and ears burning, ear pressure, more vvertigo and nausea on Tuesday. Symptoms of vertigo and nnausea subsided after taking Promethezine which I have been taking half-doses (cutting my pills in half) so I am not drowsy, drinking a lot of water, Almond milk (which I had not had in a few weeks and only opened it after Tues so it is nnot a causitive trigger) which helped my acidic stomach.
Unlike some people, I had a very healthy lifestyle, managed pain with stretching and eating well. My Migraines became more and more frequent until I could not manage them with any other alternatives. I hope I can get back to that some day. Taking the regime of medications has allowed me to start doing things I had not been able to do in 7 years.
Hope everyone is helpful for you. Every little bit of knowledge counts.
