I'm new here, but I'm just about
desperate. I've had migraine for a long time, and as no preventatives word on me, my doctor had me on Tylenol 3's for pain control. Then I was in a car accident, and as well as breaking my knee, I suffered a fairly bad closed head injury. My migraine quadrupled over night. The pain medicine doctor in the hospital said I should be on Dilauid instead of Tylenol 3's, as long term use of the Tylenol is bad for my kidneys. So, I tell this to my GP, who puts me on the diludid. It's eleven years later, and after I had reached a point where I was taking up to 24mg per dose, I decided to get my dosage down, and I did. I go back to the doctor every two months for a RX renewal, and I often would make two months worth last three or even four months. The last two appointments, I've had only enough pills to barely make it. My supply was down to only one or two pills left. I figured that, despite my efforts, my body was now needing either more, or stronger dosages. When I told this to my doctor, you would have thought I was some strung out junkie- not a 51 year old happily married, mother of three. A person who has been going to him for 17 years! I am still livid. Mind you, my response to him at the time was not anger. I broke down and cried instead. Now he says that he's never been happy with this course of treatment, and he is never going to increase these meds. He wants me to take Tylenol as much as possible. OTC Tylenol. I'm on gabapentin to try and help with he migraines, and that's the direction he wants to go. I'm already on the highest dosage of gabapentin, and he's not telling how that is going to do any more than it is.
I'm just so frustrated! He doesn't want me on Dilauid? Fine! I just want help. I don't care how. The pain is more than I can cope with. The neurologist says that I am considered in the top 2% of migraine sufferers world wide, in that I have one every day, and no preventatives work on me.
So what do I do now?
