Hey everyone. it's been a while since I posted here. really in need of some advice :(
about a year ago i had a pain-filled week and a half of non-stop migraines. i was getting them every day, even sometimes twice a day. i saw doctors, neuros.. they all said it was normal and that sometimes that could just happen. i survived the week and went another 6 months without even one migraine. then one day, the cycle started up again and i was having migraines every day.. this, again, lasted for about a week and then finally let up. now, here i am, 6 months later, stuck in bed, after having 2 migraines in a row. they're so bad they wipe me out completely and i'm basically useless for even the rest of the day after the migraine goes away. of course, i'm thinking, here we go again, another week filled with migraines, vomiting, feeling like crap and of course, missing work :( what could it be that causes me to have these non-stop migraines for a week at a time, and then vanish for months without even having the odd one?
the worst part of it is that because i have them all at once, i have to miss so much work. it's not just taking a day off, it's taking a week to a week and a half off. or who knows how long i'll have them for this time?? the previous job i was at when i had the migraines before, i actually lost because of all the time off i had to take. after i missed a week for a second time, they said they couldn't handle it anymore. i tried to explain it to them, but i understood that they needed someone more reliable..
now, i'm at a new job that i LOVE. i've only been here for about 2 months, and here i am.. calling in sick with a killer migraine, wondering how many times i'll have to call in this week. i am SO worried that i'll end up losing this job too, because of these horrible migraines, that decide to show up at the worst times..
so my first questions is have these types of migraines ever happened to any of you before? where they hardly ever happen but when they do they're non-stop for days? and then just vanish? it creeps me out and i wish i knew why this was happening to me. (i thought i should mention, my migraines are with aura, and numbness all the way up to my mid-arm, on the opposite site of the pain. i'm also taking 30mg of Elavil every night as a preventative, which i feel has made my migraines less severe and less lengthy. i take tryptans (sp?) when i get the actual migraine, which helps, but only after a long while, and makes me drowsy and half-dead when the migraine actually goes away)
also, i'm sure many of you have had to miss work before for migraines.. how do you deal with it? how do you keep a job when migraines are so unpredictable??
i would appreciate any advice or comments.. i feel hopeless. thanks for reading.
