I hope that someone here can help me, I'm not seeking medical advice so much as information.
My boyfriend is currently lying on the bed behind me, crippled by a migraine so terrible he has vomited once and can barely move three feet. I just found him on the floor after getting up to go to the restroom, he was only a foot away from the bed, and this was after a half an hour of effort on his part.
This is something that doesn't happen a whole lot, but "regular" migraines occur multiple times a week.
I am sick of watching him suffer like this and not being able to fix it. No medication works permanently. For a long time they went away completely but now they're back again. His father is a doctor so he's eeked by for this long without bothering to get health insurance, but right now he's in a condition where I am being advised by all my internet research to take him to the ER - but not wanting to put him in medical debt for years to come, I hope you can all understand my reluctance.
When he was a kid, his awful brother thought it would be funny to teach him a lesson on not to run at the pool by intentionally tripping him. He smashed his face on the edge of the pool, rolled into the water, and just watched all the blood float up. He told me that he does not remember a time before that day where he had migraines.
As a kid after that, he was taken to the hospital, given and MRI, and doctors told him he was right as rain - but he obviously is not. Whatever that injury did to him he's had these headaches in varying intensities all his life, and enough is enough as far as I'm concerned.
Are there any treatments available that aim to correct any damage done by head injuries that cause Migraines? Furthermore, could an injury *that* old even still affect him so badly, especially when the MRI showed nothing? I mean, I'd just assume he probably ruptured a vessel, but after almost two decades that should have healed, right? I'm just at a loss here, unable to stop this horrible agony that makes him cry out involuntarily, he can only crawl (if that), and earlier before bedtime I had to literally drag him to the bathtub. The herbal bath I made up worked for a time, but since I'm now awake and back to square one, it's obvious that his headache is back for round two.
If it couldn't be the injury he sustained that day at the pool, is there anything better for him? He really needs to get health insurance - I would be so very happy if he could permanently get rid of these darn things.
He's underweight for his height, and always has been. You know how some people are just skinny no matter what? He weighs 98 pounds and is 5'7. He dedicated a large amount of his time to gaining muscle mass and weight but to no avail. He's just always been small, and probably always will be. Could this be a factor? I love him as he is but if gaining some weight would help him...I don't know. I think he's fallen back asleep now but I'm just tired of this constant pain he seems to be in, and I'm sure he is too. A few years ago he got one about this bad minus the vomiting, and his dad gets free medications from pharmaceutical companies trying to get him to sell their stuff. He brought over one such gift, a needle-less epi-pen type thing. It got rid of the migraine within seconds. We live very far away from his dad now, and I can't for the live of me remember what medication this was or if it's available still, if it's affordable without insurance, etc. I really wish I had one right now.
Any help or information is greatly appreciated :(.
