Anyone grind their teeth at night?

So I was told that I grind my teeth at night & that I need a mouth guard for teeth grinding. My dentist wanted to charge me $700.
I started doing some research online & came across a company called Sentinel Mouthguard Co.
They offer the same custom dental Mouthguards for a lot cheaper.
As I understand it, I would just be responsible for taking my own dental impression (they ship out the kit).
I saw a few other companies online that do the sane thing but these guys seem to be the best (price-wise).
Has anyone ever used this type of service before? And if so, what ha been your experience?
It doesn't seem difficult to take my own dental impression, I just wonder if it really is the same as what I would be getting from my dentist..

I don't know on what site you made your research, but Sentinel Mouthguard isn't that good from my point of view. It didn't even made it in the top 5 on this page: www.cureyourbruxism.com/top-online-dental-labs-custom-night-guards/ That being said, a mouth guard is a must. My experience is get one as soon as possible. And don't hesitate to pay a little a little extra to get faster service and shipping since every night without your night guard is a night where your teeth get a little bit more worn out.

Never used this service but I am an avid teeth grinder! Wish I could find something to help too =(

Has anyone bought one of these nightguards through the internet? The ones at the dentist are like $600. Are these the same as far as quality and functionality goes? recommendations?

I know this thread is a little old but I thought I could help.. I actually went ahead and bought a night guard from Sentinel Mouthguard Co. and couldn't be happier. My dentist wanted $600 for a custom night guard, that's wayyyy to much for me. After I got it I brought it to my dentist to show him and he said it was exactly what they would have made me. well he actually said "That's a perfectly made night guard".

I can't compare the two being that, ordering from the internet Vs what the dentist will make you since I only went the internet route, but the approval from my dentist made me feel good about the purchase, and it was a lot cheaper than what my dentist wanted. Supposedly they're identical but you save money by taking your own dental impression. There's more info on their site, I'm just scratching the surface..

Glad you were able to get a quality guard for a cheaper price! I also have problems with teeth grinding at night, it has really done a lot of damage to my teeth and caused lots of TMJ problems as well as headaches. I had a custom one made by my dentist about a year ago, (didn't know about the online stuff then), but she only charged me a very minimal cost. My family goes to her, and has for many years. She knows I am on social security and have very little money. I have very bad dental issues because of severe dry mouth from meds over the past 20 years. I am only 36, but my teeth are falling apart. Need a lot of work done, and I just had a big oral surgery last month. A front tooth had to come out b/c of a very bad infection that was eating away at my jaw bone. Can't even do a bridge cuz my teeth are too weak. So, 3 more months for the bone graft to heal, then 9-12 months for an implant (if bone graft is ok). Will likely end up losing most of my teeth over time.

Sorry, not sure why I am telling you all that!! I guess the bottom line is take care of your mouth!! The $$ is well spent. Hope more people see your post and are able to get what they need for a good price! I get sorta angry when I think about how dental stuff isn't covered under regular healthcare. Last time I checked, my mouth was part of my body!! Hope your mouth guard works well for you!!

I have two of the mouth guards, and making the impression isn't really that hard. I find it best to order two at a time so when I chew through one I already have the second to wear while I wait for the new order to arrive. You can get thick ones (like football mouth guards) or thin ones. I like the thin ones as I don't really notice them when I have them in and since I have to sleep with a CPAP too, the least discomfort I can add the better.

That's unfortunate about your situation, that's gotta be frustrating for sure but I hope everything heals nicely for you and works out in the end. I agree with you 100% about healthcare covering your teeth and actually I was just thinking that the other day when I was paying my health care bill. Good luck with everything.

That's pretty smart ordering two at a time, I have two myself from Sentinel, the 2nd I got at a discount since they already had my stone mold and the one I ordered was only like 88 bucks. I think its good to have a backup just in case. I like the thin soft ones too since its already hard enough for me to sleep as it is ( sorta have insomnia )

Sunny, I had about a year of bruxism (teeth grinding) which coincided with my taking of antidepressant medications. I tried one of the "boil it and shape it" sports mouthpieces you can buy in the drug stores. I stopped using it, although it fit well enough, because of its construction material. It apparently had bisphenol(? sp.) as part of its composition. This has recently come up in the news as being a component of many products, like the lining of cans, cash register receipts, plastic drinking glasses, etc. It is a potent carcinogen. If you wear that type of mouthpiece night after night, it is sure to breakdown over time and cause you to ingest this toxin. So, opt for one that is Bisphenol free....I believe that the company that sells this type of mouthpiece is called Dentec (or possibly Deltec, can't remember). I intend to get me one of them and start wearing it. But, it may be too late for me. I am a pretty old bird already, and age alone has worn down my teeth. However, this most recent scenario has really done a job on the top surfaces of my teeth. Will have to probably have some of them veneered or crowned to improve the cosmetic quality of my smile.
