Hi Rabbit,
I'm with you. I can't stand that many headaches a month either. I have tried the self medication route and not found any relief. Have you talked to your neurologist? Can s/he suggest something else? Could rebound headaches be a possibility? Have you discussed Botox with your neurologist? Have you tried a beta blocker? or neurontin (another anti-seizure)? The neurologist can't be out of possibilities. Mine has just recommended Amerge daily for a week, after the release of a new study. It's working fairly well.
Based on my experience, I'm much more successful when I try things my neurologist suggests than those I find on my own. If you're not happy with the success you've had it's okay to tell your neurologist that. At my last visit I went in saying that I had enough, I couldn't take the pain anymore, my headaches had reached INTOLERABLE LEVELS again. He heard me and gave me three things to try. I'm not sure which is working but something is and I'm feeling better already.
Good luck.
