Hello,

My history of migraines is so long. I'm under 2 neurologists.

I'm currently suffering rebounds from too many triptans. I've had this before.

I've also attempted suicide before as my migraines are so often and ruin my life.

I've been in bed now for 4 days so poorly. I've had enough.

However for the 1st time I've been given prednisone tablets. Starting at 40mg for 5 days and tapering down after 5 days (13 days in total).

I took my first 40mg this morning. Also took 2 imigran as I have done for the last 17 days! I know I need to stop but I was hoping prednisone would stop the migraines so I could stop the imigran.

When will the prednisone start to work? My friend said it should have stopped my migraine after the first dose!

I'm so depressed and in agony!

So sorry to read about the suffering from the migraines. It will take the prednisone 2 days to fully kick in. I urge you to follow your drs instructions on what dosage of medications to take. I understand how horrible that you feel, but self medicating is not the way to go.

I have never self medicated? He didn't tell me not to take triptans. I just know in my own mind I think it maybe not helping.

I felt nothing from the prednisone today, hopefully tomorrow

If the headaches do not let up within 48 hours, I would call the dr.. You should not be allowed to suffer like you are. I have a friend that gets Botox injections for migraines & so far this has been successful for her. Perhaps this may be something to discuss with your dr.

Hi, I have botox injections every 12 weeks and have had for about 18 months. I think my body has got immune to it.

Nothing works anymore. Hence him trying prednisone.

I'm due to try aimovig in September

Danielle, just a thought, if the prednisone does not work is there a chance of your dr trying Aimovig sooner? Be sure to check out their website, they offer patient assistance programs that works with your insurance.

Hi,

Thank you for checking on me.

Today is the 1st day where I feel slightly better so I will just have to hope each day is an improvement.
I have my normal 3 monthly botox on Tuesday as well although I'm sure it doesn't really work anymore.

I'm awaiting an MRI and as I said awaiting aimovig.

I've also emailed my neurologist about Supra Orbital nerve blocks for me to try.

Have you tried taking an antidepressant as a preventative? I took one for a while and it nearly wiped out my migraines entirely.

What are they treating with the prednisone? Inflammation? autoimmune illness? I've been on pred a lot for my AI condition, and I never noticed a difference in migraines while on it. At the same time, mine are mostly hormonal, and less frequent than you describe, but hormonal shifts almost always give me one that can last a day or two. I am lucky the neurologist was open to letting me try the antidepressant considering my migraines are a few days a month. Actually, since it sounds like you deal with depression, antidepressants might be an option worth exploring. MRI is definitely a good idea. You've never had one?

I've been on antidepressants for years. First citalopram and now sertraline. None have made a difference to my migraines.

He's put me on an 11 day course of prednisone as apparently it can stop a migraine attack which has gone on for days in a row. It works for some people and not for others.

I have no other medical conditions other than pcos

I'm so fed up

I was on pristiq. I believe that is one of the few that are known to work well for migraines. Maybe ask your neurologist if it's an option. I don't know whether you can take it with other antidepressants though, so if what you're taking is working, it may not be an option.

Just checking on you. I had gotten to the point of severe frustration before I started Aimovig. My migraines
Were running my life literally!, I did not get many breaks where I was migraine free. Now that I started the Aimovig, I have notified a positive difference.
Is there any way to get a hold of some up there? Can you check there website? Speak to Amgen directly?
Are you already on Botox?
I was willing to try anything to help these migraines. I hope you are having a good day with less pain 😎
