I dont know what to do anymore. Back in September I kept having severe migraines. I had tried a lot of medications when finally they decided to send me to a neurologist. He did some tests such and MRI's and Xrays along with some blood tests and nothing showed up. He tried some more medications and after some time found something that finally broke the month and a half long migraine that I had. Topamax and Frova- I have been on it since november and now all the sudden after a couple months of a migraine a couple times a month they are back and at full force. The medicine is no longer working and I have now had a migraine persistently for a week and I am already run down from it anyone have a idea of what might work to break it because I dont go back to my neurologist until tuesday and I cant afford to take off work. eyes

Hi Amanda, welcome to Healing Well. I am so sorry that you are having such trouble with migraine, I am glad you are seeing the Neuro again on Tuesday as I think he is the best one to suggest where to go now. From my own experience there have never been any speedy answers and some drugs have worked for a while and then are less effective and some work for much longers periods. As we are each different it is so hard to find the right formula.

I do understand about you not wanting to take time off work, I cannot afford to as I do not get paid for sick leave, but I do end up with taking 3 or 4 days per month off due to migraine - I have 2-3 migraine attacks per week. I am now on a waiting list to see a Neurologist who is a Headache Specialist - I have seen 3 different Neuros so far - and the waiting list was around 18 months last August!! Still at least I am on the list! I am unable to suggest anything to help quickly. For myself I have Imitrex injections to abort an attack which I administer myself, these are on Prescription from my Doctor. Thankfully these are still working for me but they do not suit everyone, and I know some are allergic to the drug. I wish I could be of more help, but I will pray for you, take care Ann.

Amanda-

I have been in your position many times...you may need to see your doctor about increasing your Topamax. Since your body has had time to adjust to it since September it may be time to bump up the dosage. There are also other options that your doctor has when you are in a migraine streak such as this...they can give you a steroid pack to break the migraine cycle....

Definitely talk to your doctor, they don't know what is going on if you don't tell him/her.

HI Amanda,

Have you tried a chiropractor?  I used to get headaches every couple of weeks, and they would knock me out for a long time.  Usually my chiropractor can offer relief.  I know it isn't for everyone, but it's worth a try.  Best of luck to you,
