Scalp migraines???

I have these extremely irritating headaches that begin in my scalp. It usually begins a day or two before a whopper. Is there any known help for this?? I had a neuro prescribe Singulair but that didn't really help and it caused other unwanted side effects. Any advice??

Uhm... why would the neuro prescribe something for asthma for your migraines? That makes zero sense to me.

Does your scalp get sore, especially around your temples and the sides? If so it probably means tension headaches.

Her nurse said something about them being connected to atmospheric changes - I have no clue! I had originally gone to that neuro to get away from taking so many over the counter meds and ended up going home with 9 PRESCRIBED meds for prevention and rescue! I think I was a guinea pig.

Sorry I forgot to answer your question - it's usually to the left of midline - same spot 99% of the time and just miserable. Constant feeling of someone trying to claw a hunk outta my scalp.

(One of my aura's is the one that makes my whole scalp tingle and feels like little bugs - that was scary the first few times considering I was living in a place that was high on the creepy crawlie scale!!!)

My headaches are in the same spot every time, usually in my temple and the area right above my left ear. Its uncommon for tension headaches to be unilateral, but in my case the things that contribute to the headaches just make it that way!

Anyways - If I were you I would visit a dentist and have them check out your bite alignment - thats what my problem was. It couldn't hurt, and it sure beats taking medicine for something you don't have!

you should also look into massage- the scalp shouldn't be stuck on your skull- it should move. i tell people with 'stuck scalp' that they think too much! you can prob find a massage therapist who works with chiros that will do a 15 minute treatment  and really loosen you up which will allow blood/lymph to circulate and relax those muscles. it will cost about 15- 20 bucks but a little massage can go a long way
