Migraine and Personality

My name is Iain Finnie, a Postgraduate student at Queen Margaret University College in Edinburgh, Scotland.  As part of my MSc in Health Psychology I am undertaking research into possible links between some psychological characteristics and migraine frequency and severity.  There has been increaseing interest in possible personality factors in the initiation, lenght and strength of migraine attacks.  Research like this should help inform the treatment of migraine, treatments could then be tailored to fit the life of individuals.

Both characteristics measured in my investigation have been associated with various pain conditions.  However little is known about their general prevalence in migraine sufferers or of any possible influence they may have on migraine.

I am looking for migraine sufferers of any age or gender to take part in the present study.

All the project involves is the completion of four short questionnaires, which should take approx 30 minutes.  If you are interested please e-mail me at the address below and I shall e-mail you a word file which you can then complete, save, and e-mail back to me.  Once the study is completed I shall e-mail all particpants their individual scores and a summary of the study.  In the mean time I would be happy to attempt to answer any questions people have about psychology and migraine as I am presently conducting a large literature review.

You are free to withdraw to from the project at any time without providing a reason.

Any data shall be anonymised. Your name or e-mail address shall be replaced with a participant number, and it shall not be possible to identify you from any data within the report.  The results may also be published.

It is unfortunate but not all treatments work for all people, psychological mehtods are no different to drug treatments in this regard (unfortunately), but I still believe that they may have some value and require further research.
