Has anyone been cured of Migraines ?

I am new to the community but not new to headaches(migraines). I find they average 2x a week now and are getting worse every year. It has been 7 years now I am 27.They started with a pregnancy and never ended. I have tried almost every drug.Painkillers dont work all i want is a cure. I have read your posts and am discouraged, has anyone been cured yet?

Hi Apathetic,

Welcome to Healing Well. I am sorry that you are so discouraged, although there is no cure for migraine there are many ways that it can be successfully managed. Have you seen a Neurologist or a Headache Specialist? What drugs have you tried?

This is a tough disease to deal with, and nobody claims it is easy, but it is possible to get to the stage where you are managing the disease instead of the disease managing you!! Have you ever kept a Headache Diary?

Please feel free to vent here at any time, we all have our low times and need someone who understands. Do you have any family that supports you? You have probably read some of my other posts and will know that I started having migraines in my teens and I am now 52 and still getting them. Learning to manage them is the key to coping, and you need a Doctor to help you with that!

Hey Ap, Annuk gave you the best advice there is, find a Neurologist the you have faith in and keep at it. I was diagnosed 30 years ago. Luckily for me the headaches went away during pregnancy (everyone is different) but then they came back with avengence. The only thing that I can say is that Imotrex was a lifesaver for me, I am now 46 and only get headaches when there is a quick barometric lowering. My headaches have changed in character as I age so it is always something you have to be on top of but it does not have to be discouraging. Keep at it and keep in touch.

Thank--you for your replies. I have been seeing a neuologist and been on here comes the list... midrin,topamax,verapamil,furocet,vicodin,tylenol3,naproxen,imetrex,and of course the timeless excedrin.Please forgive spelling i never bothered to learn the proper spelling of the meds.There are more im sure but over the years i forget. I had an mri done and no tumore found but no answers still.I have an appt today and anyone have suggestions for effective meds to suggest?

Hi Ap, I hope you can find something today to help with getting your migraine under control, but unfortunately I cannot help with meds to suggest. Really it is the Neuro's job to be making suggestions to you - isn't that what they are paid for?

It may be that there will be a particular combination of drugs that will work best for you, but it will take some time to discover this. Hang in there, please let us know how you get on?

For what its worth, I'll say a prayer for you. I'm afraid its the only help I can offer. There are lots of people who find a management solution that works for a long time. Keep positive. Find the right doctor. I'm sure things will get better.
