babyboomer, I have been getting terrible burning, throbbing headaches in the back of my head for 8 years now, 2 years after the headaches started, I felt the weird facial stuff start. At first it felt like a spider, bug, or a hair going across my face, now its more of a pressure feeling that sometimes buzzes.
I take xanax, and it seems to help some. I had a brain MRI and also a cervical MRI, the only thing found was a bulging disk, that I didn't know that I had, and also I have no curvature in my neck.
I hate the facial feelings the worst, and sometimes it will do this weird feeling on the side of my head. I know that its going to bother me when I can feel tension in my shoulder or occipitial area. I have not been diagnosed with anything yet. Neuro says they are cervicogenic migraines.
The headaches started about 3 months after I was involved in a car accident. I get the tingling in my back, and also in my legs. I fear so bad that its MS or something worse for that matter.
When this happens in my face, it doesn't hurt, there is no numbness, and it only lasts for a few seconds. I have it everyday, it makes its appearance at least 20-30 times a day.
I think the xanax helps to a certain degree because it has mild muscle relaxants in it, I dunno.
Pain specialist gave me injections, it didn't help, now she wants me to try Lyrica. Too scared.
Your not alone, I have been through pure heck for 6 years now. All the docs that I talk to says that the neck problem shouldn't cause the facial stuff. Well, its really weird that I can raise my arms and when I lower them the buzzing feeling will start, or when I put my head back to look up, it will do it. It is definently aggravated by movement, which makes me believe that something is triggering it. I can actually push a certain area on the side of my neck and the tingles or buzzes will start. Weird. Your not alone. I know how you feel. Jen
