Frova for migranes??

I have been having Migranes for years.. My doc recently change me to Frova..... Ive never taken it and i was wondering if anyone else has and if it worked for you.......... If anyone could help and let me know........ its greatly abreciated.

Hi Criss,

I don't personally use Frova as I cannot use any of the triptans (basilar migraines), but my aunt uses it with great success. I believe Frova is most often prescribed for women who suffer from menstrual migraines although it does work with other migraine types as well.

I know it is sometimes prescribed a little differently than the other triptans if you are using it for menstrual migraines. My aunt takes it for a couple days before she gets her period every day - kind of like a preventative. She then takes it for the first 3 or 4 days of her period - I can't remember which. It seems a little weird to me, but then it is NOT prescribed that way for everyone.

Did your doctor switch you from a different triptan?

They gave it to me to try. I feel it takes to long to work (45 minutes to and Hour) and it only works for me if I take it right at the start of my migraines. I do like it though because there is virtually no side effects to Frova compared to the side effects of Imtrex when I take it.

I also got the Frova for menstral migraines. My doc gave me some samples. The few I took did not help and my neuro suggested that I take them for 2-3 days before my period and 2-3 days during to avoid. I have not done this yet because I don't have the prescription filled.
