My daughter is 16 and has had headaches since she was about 2 years old. She was the only kid in grade school that had pain meds in the school office. She is almost 17 now and has been having a terrible time. I wish we could isolate what starts these attacks. I work in a doctor's office and we have tried every migraine medicine available. She has never had a demerol injection because I see too many addicts and we just don't want to go down that path. Currently, she is taking 400 mg of ibuprofen daily when she doesn't have a headache and 800 mg, three times daily when she does have a headache. She is also taking 160 mg of propranolol in the morning and 80 mg at night. Her grades are good overall, but now that she is a junior in highschool, it's getting harder to make up the missed work. I think she was only able to get through 2 half days last week. I feel so helpless! I think we will have to go through the board office and get her classified as a handicapped child. That way, the school will have to accomodate her absences and also offer tutoring if she gets too far behind.
Right now, I am really wondering how she will get through college like this. She wants to go to a christian university to study youth ministry, but I'm sure they will have attendence requirements.
Does anyone else here have a child that has migraine headaches. How do you handle the school situation?
Thanks,
bambi
