Has anyone here heard of the pipline drug "Tezampanel", a glutamate blocker, I believe, as hopefully it will helpful in treating head pain, for those who can't take other types of pain medicine?

Yes, It's one that I have been wondering about also. It seems it was moving ahead through clinical trials a couple of years ago and achieving some decent results. I haven't heard anything about it since. I don't know if it is dead, being optimized/reworked or awaiting approval. If you find anything out please let us know.

I believe it is a Glu5 or Glu2 (can't remember atm) antagonist. Similar to topamax, but much much more targeted.

It's a different drug than I was thinking (it's an abortive, not a preventative). It looks like, the company that designed (torrey pines pharma) the drug merged with another company(raptor pharma). As of a late 2009 things were looking good. No news since...

Yes, I understand it is more of an abortive. But I was hoping for alternative abortives for those of us taking heavy-duty narcs for pain control. I only others I can come up with for my chronic pain situation are the Migranal (DHE-45) spray a couple days a week, alternated with something like a relatively stomach friendly NSAID, like Arthotec (which also happens to be very expensive).
As long-term headache sufferers, so many of us are desperate for more drug options to pick from.
