....and it's not Topamax.....(I love "Dopamax" but Thank God for an opportunity for something new)
Namenda (memantine HCl, Forest Pharmaceuticals) was approved for use in the United States in October, 2003, more than a decade after its use began in Europe under the brand names Ebixa and Axura. It is a NMDA receptor antagonist which is used for the treatment of "moderate to severe dementia of the Alzheimer's type." It is now being used to treat TTH better known as Tension-Type Headaches and Chronic Migraines.
Studies have been done that show a reduction in frequency and intensity of migraines and tension-type headaches.
More studies are being done.
Speaking of...there are starting a study here locally...I am not sure if this is the medication they are testing. I have already called and left a message and anxiously awaiting a call back...at least so I can get some information.
The more I learn, the more you will know regarding the study and the medication...Just thought I would share...
