OK - WHO HAS ANY EXPERIENCE WITH MIGRANOL/DHE?

confused  Hey guys,

I just got treated with Migranol/DHE at the ER for the first time.  It worked really well for me, which is great, since I've gone thru everything else.  I think I can even get my PCP to prescribe the Nasal Spray version for me since its not a narcotic.  I did so research on it on the web and it sounds perfect for me.

If any of you have any experience with this med, please let me know about your experience, good or bad, so I know what to look out for.

Hi Leigh Ann,

How did you have the DHE, was it through infusion or nasal spray at the ER or some other way?? I have not experienced this drug personally but I do know a number of people who have, with varying side effects the predominant ones being tiredness and and nausea.

Did they do an ECG at the ER when you had the DHE, or have they any plans to check up on you in that way? I really hope that this works for you Leigh Ann and can give you a break from the pain!!!!

Yes, I have had DHE IV, Migranol NS, and even gave myself shots of DHE at home. IT worked most of the time, but it made me so sick(vomitting, aweful leg cramps) that I couldn't continue it.

The NS is an enteresting contraption...took a while to figure out, but soon enough you'll get it.

It is a great medication for most people though. Do ask for something for nasuea if you get a script for the NS. It may just be your saving factor! Good luck with it.

I always  ask for DHE at the Er when I have a migraine that won't quit.  I get DHE, phenergan, and usually toradol or sometimes demerol in conjunction.

Sometimes the DHE will kick it by itself but sometimes not.  It has to be IV for me though.  I used the nasal spray for a few months and then it wouldn't work.

I also use imitrex injections and axert and those will sometimes abort if I don't wait too long.

Be careful with the DHE.  It makes your heart race and really nauseated. (for me anyway.)

Hope it works.  It is my saving grace.  I am going to ask my neuro for a rx for the dhe injections that you can give yourself and try to stay out of the ER.

         I have had  DHE by Iv (both continuos drip and most of the time every 6 hrs with IV zofran for 3 to 6 days depending on how severe the migraine was). I have also used DHE at home both in the nose spray and the injection form. Intially it seemed to help but rather quicky it stopped helping.If I am hospitalized my doctor always wants to try it for at least 3 days before they consider other things. It does not seem to work for me anymore and it always gave me moderate to severe stomack upset and muscle cramping as well as severe diareha  that  needed medicine to controll. I have met many people who it has helped tremendously and they say it always breaks their cycle and gives them relief. I hope that will be the case for you. I would ask your Dr for something for nausea .Good luck !

Hi all,

I have taken Migranol nasal spray for years, and most recently taken DHE injections at home for my really bad migraines. My doctor decided that it was a better game plan than having to go to the ER for every terrible migraine attack.

You might want to discuss with your doctor...It is only possible to work out an appropriate treatment plan when you discuss all the details with your doctor. I also suggest to do plenty of research and know all you can about any and all possible treatments. No one will take as good care of yourself as you will.
