Hey jodisai,
Lyrica works on the actual nerves in the head and body. I took it for several months and didn't have any side effects. Unfortunately, it didn't help my particular migraines, but it is a very good medication. I understand being anxious about starting new medication and the side effects. Try to remember that side effects bother only a small percentage of people that take the medication, and usually it's only the minor side effects, and they only last a short time, until your system gets use to the new medication.
Try not to let the fear of having side effects prevent you from taking a medication or stopping right away if you get some of the side effects. Many people miss the benefits of perfectly appropriate medication because they talk themselves out of taking it due to possible side effects. To give you an example from my personal experience, I've had multiple health problems in addition to chronic migraines for years. My mother has not handled this well. Her doctor prescribed Paxil for her, but she refused to take it, based on the possible side effects. She just took Lorazapam like M&Ms, even though it would knock her out for a day, but just postponed another meltdown. During this whole time, I could not count on her for support, so all the burden fell on my father at a terrible toll. Finally, after about three years, my mom finally started on the Paxil. Well, the heavens opened and the sun shown through. My mother is now sane (mostly), and rarely has a meltdown. I can talk to her rationally without her freaking out, and not so much pressure is put on my father anymore.
Trust that your doctor is prescribing medication for you that will be a positive in your life. You may have a couple of bumpy weeks, but discuss this with your doctor when the prescription is given to you. This should help with the anxiety, expecially if you know what to expect ahead of time.
In closing, let us know how you do on the Lyrica, and keep us updated on your progress. We care.
