I went to the ER for a pain shot after dealing with a horrible migraine and puking. He said "narcotics are good for treating pain" Migraines are a totally different type of pain and narcotics don't help them. YOu just get hight, knock out and wake up with another headache. you will get addicted to the medication...blahh blahh. (luckly he did give me a shot)

THen my mom starts talkingabout how I'm addicted to pain medications. I told her, right now, I may be a bit dependant on them. SHe was me go to to a "controlled envioronment" to get these drugs out of my system......

all the way home she talks about sending me to a year long inpatient program because I have a problem with depression, and pain medications.

I HAVE A MEDICAL PROBLEM, I do not need to be in some rehab place for a year. I told her I would go to pain magangment, counceling(tomorrow), and a nutrionist. I just got a job I start yesterday. I really want things to start getting better...but tonight I felt like I was being punished for something I can't controll. I have cried all night long, not much help with a migraine.

Then, they just coundn't uderstand why I was crying, so they said I have emotional issues........

I'm so tired. I jjust want to be well.

They don't understand that my migraine may NEVER go away and no doctor anywhere may be able to help me.

what do you do with imitrex,phenergan,toradol,and prevents. don't work.

Is it wrong to take narcotics when nothing else works.

I'm just so frustrated, angry, tired,exhausted.

Hi AngMichelle,

I am sorry for what you are going through at the moment. I know how low this condition can get you, and how relentless it can be. I have had it for 30 years myself!! Which is more years than you have been alive! You may find what I am about to say hard to take, but I am only stating fact and what I have experienced myself.

Please read on to the end of this as I have your best interests at heart!........... because the pain has worn you down so much you will find all of this hard to grasp, but I will try to take you through it a step at a time. Firstly it is a sad fact that the very meds that we take for the pain are actually making the pain worse and increasing the frequency and intensity of the attacks. I am talking about the narcotic meds! Yes this has happened to me and I will not touch them now!!!(This is a personal decision) I might add that this happens when we take more and more of them trying to get rid of the pain!!!!

Secondly, if we do not slow down and try to ride out some of the attacks a bit, and carry on taking more and more of the narcotic meds we are feeding this problem. I know because I did it!!!

In the end we find ourselves in a dreadful state demanding more and more meds from the ER or Docs who by now are refusing us, and our family members are accusing us of being addicted and wanting us in rehab thinking, well goodness knows what they are thinking!!!!!

This is all because we are breaking our hearts desperate to bring an end to the pain which as you rightly say that we have no control of!!!!!!

There are no easy or simple solutions here, but the best way forward that I can see is to find a good Headache Specialist and follow his/her recommendations. It may just be worth talking to your parents about the sort of help that would support your headaches whilst ridding your system of the narcotic meds, now that would be worth a lot to you and you would feel so much better for it!!!! The Headache Specialist should help you do this!!!!!
