Hi all,

I am a regular on the prostate cancer forum so please excuse what it says at the bottom of my post about me. I came here looking for anyone who might have had a problem like mine. I was recently admitted to the hospital w/ chest pains and loss of vission. After a ton of testing the docs found nothing wrong with my heart, Thank God! But a neurologist came to my room after looking at a cat scan of my head and said he beleived I was having migraines. I told him I never had a migrain headache before. He replied you can have them without any pain and your symptoms (partial & total loss of sight) are typical of migrains. Sometimes I loose just the top half of my vission, it just goes black on the top and the bottom half is clear. Other times my sight just slowly fogs out entirely. Very scary while driving! Have any of you ever experianced anything like this before or if this a usual occerence with migrains? Thanks for any help you can give me!

I have migraine auras too. They are pretty scary. As I have gotten older, I tend to have the aura without much of a headache afterwards (for which I am very grateful!). I think its pretty strange for you to have developed them this late in life. I'm glad they did a ct scan. Did they say anything about getting an MRI?
Have you started any new meds? Many times migraines are caused by stress, the weather, certain foods. It would be good for you to keep a diary of all these things, and maybe you can figure out when to expect them, or how to avoid them. Some trigger foods for people tend to be things like chocolate, wine, MSG, certain cheeses, nuts, etc.
I've never gone completely blind, but I can get some pretty intense shimmering colored flashing lights, and I usually lose half of the vision in each eye. Fortunately, those only last about 20 minutes. Also sometimes, I can't talk or think right during these. They usually cause a panic attack too. If your's get very frequent, you might consider something like a beta blocker, which helped me alot for several years. Good luck to you.

Thanks so much for replying to my post! I have done some research on this since I posted hear last. I saw a post here from Texasjen who wrote about a similar subject and sent her an e-mail and she was great. She explained it to me and pointed me in the right direction for the research. Thats whats great about this place, someone is always willing to help out another! I failed to mention that I have been having this problem for a very long time but never had it checked untill recently. What you are saying make perfect sense to me, I beleve its stress that causes it for me. Texasjen's husband had the same problem which occured with bouts of high blood pressure which I also have. I do take beta as well as calcium blockers for my HBP. The doc in the hospital told me to up my perscripion for Effecsor which I was already taking for depression. He said they use the same to control migraines. I have not had another spell or what ever you call it since then but I sure hope I don't get another, especially while driving!
