When I was younger I always felt sorry for the people that were in hospitals during the holiday season, so I made a bunch of handmade Christmas/holidays cards and brought them to a nearby hospital and gave them to patients for several years.
A few years ago I ended up in a headache center over the Christmas season and everyone was pretty much in the pits more so than usual because they were confined at that time. I asked a couple of people for some help and got permission from nurses and doctors and set up a little party for the people in my ward. We had eggnog and sugar cookies to pass around, and we all sat down to play a few silly games like Mad Gab and Taboo. It was crazy because we were all hooked up to IVs and the room was small, but it really seemed to cheer people up.
Since then I've made several batches cookies during the Christmas season and, with the permission of the right people, brought them to a nearby hospital and sat them out for the patients. The people who were well enough to get out of bed were invited to play a few games, and I went around and delivered some handmade Christmas cards to the people that were confined to their beds.
Even though I hate hospitals, I really enjoy bringing a little cheer to the people that are there. It's become a bit of a tradition for my mother, my friends and I. We even have nurses that willingly take part in our games.
P.S. I'm sorry to hear that you are having a difficult season, I hope it gets better. And congratulations on your upcoming marriage!
