Neck Spasms Anyone?

sad  As of the past few months I have been having terrible spasms on the right side of my neck. They rediate up to the right side of my head but, here's the weird thing, the pain just goes under the back right of my skull about 2" or so! Sometimes it is very tender to touch (the under the skull that is). The spasms will last from an hour to 6 hours. I have tried heat, I know, not good. I have tried ice and nothing worked! Obviously pain meds but even that doesn't really cut it! I called my MS doc but I think I gave him the wrong details as he thought it was a migraine and told me to take Excedrin. I didn't go any further because I am tired of complaining! Just wondering if anyone else has this problem and, if so, what do you do for relief. I see my MS dr in March.

Well i'm not sure what to say this could be. I get these exact type of spasms...exactly as u describe...and i also hav been dx'd with migraines in my right eye. I get the pain from the migraines in and behind my eye...but don't have pain anywhere else. The spasms are seperate...no eye pain or other auras associated with them so i never thought they were related to the migraines. I don't have ms, so u see, i'm not sure what they are either. I don't take any meds for the spasms...i just try to be really careful and massage the area when it happens. I'd certainly bring this all to the docs attention again...let him know u still need help. I"m sorry this is going on...just more to deal with huh? Take care and let us know how this goes for u and if u' doc offers any other help here. Good to see u again...and thanks for u'r prayers!!

Hey Hummingbird Lover,

 I was having some spasticity in my neck and upper back in November and my doc wrote me a script for Baclofen.  It really helped.  You may want to ask your doctor about something for spasticity.  Until I had the baclofen I was in some pretty bad pain.  I used to baclofen for about a week and it really helped.  While I was on the baclofen I did not need anything for pain.  My doctor said I can use the baclofen as needed.

Good luck with that.  I hope you get some relief real soon.

I also have these neck spasms, almost exactly as you describe. Don't really know what causes this, or if it's MS related or not. I suspect, however, that it's muscle spasms or simply tension caused by stress.

The only thing that has ever worked for me is massage. Excedrin Migraine does take the edge off sometimes, sometimes not. But massaging the area really really helps. It's nice to have someone else do it, but even some self massage has worked for me.

After all the eye problems I had (o. n ) I had serious facial spasms and what I called the tics but neck spasm will diffinetly work for a discription and these lasted for 3 days. The neck spasms hurt like, well you know what. It felt deep and I felt like I would do some serious damage but I could not stop it and then finally it subsided and my neck hurt and was sore for about a week. The facial spasms went away at the same time.
