Going to MS CLinic on Thurs

I have not been able to get in here for quite some time due to family stuff but tonight I am finally able to.

On Thursday I have my first appt at the MS Clinic at one of the hospitals in the city. First appt is with the Neuro, then I go to the Geneticist straight after. Next is a visit with the clinics nurse before my last appt of the day which is with the Neuro-Opthamolgist. DH is coming with me. It will be a long day.

I am going to be asking lots of questions about meds etc. and I have a list of new things to discuss. Part of me is looking forward to it and the other part is not. I am trying to just think positively and a least I know that I may be able to get onto some meds and learn some new info.

I hope everyone is doing ok. I am going to read all the recent posts now.

Well that was a long day but very informative. So the neurologist confirmed Relaxing Remitting MS based on my clinicl symptoms and the MRI. She showed us the MRI which was interesting to look at. . She was a lovely lady and very supportive. We talked about meds etc and she wants me to attend an 'education session' at the clinic in June to learn all about the different ones available etc. She said for me she would recommend Rebif but I can certainly learn about others and we can decide from there. She is very open to prescribing one of the other meds if I am more comfortable with them.

We also met with a geneticist. Not sure if this is normal practice or if it was because this is a teaching hospital. Anyway, she took LOTS of notes about my whole extended family etc. Next we saw the clinic nurse who explained to us how she is available for phone discussons etc. and she gave us tons of stuff to read. Everybody was so supportive and caring.

My final visit of the day was with the neuro-eye doctor person. Sorry can't remember the exact title LOL. She did a thorough examination and determined that the vision in my left eye is perfect and the right eye is very close to perfect. She could also see evidence that I had Optic Neuritis in the past in my right eye which was definitely one of my symptoms in 2006.

So, now we are home and I am going to digest everything we learned and read the info. I definitely was expecting this outcome from today and I am ok but I feel kinda weird. Does that make sense? One day at a time :)

One bit of good news, our 17 yr old managed to get our youngest to school and picked up again at 3pm without any incident so that was a HUGE victory for our family today LOL It was the first time he has been given that responsibilty and he passed with flying colors. The little things that make me feel good ..............:)

hey calicorosie,

That sounds like a great day with lots of information and support.  I am very impressed with all the doctors you saw.  I am very proud of your son and all that he accomplished too.  As a mom, I got the biggest kick out of that part of your post.  You sounded more excited about that than the clinic visit.  That would be a huge victory for our family too.  Anytime your kids show the maturity and discipline to add the the family climate it is a reason to celebrate.  Thanks for keeping us posted.

I'm assuming you meant "reLAPsing -remitting MS"...not "relaxing"?? Now that you have confirmation, the next step indeed is to find out all you can about the various meds, and then make a decision about which you want to try. Do consider your doctor's recommendation that you go with Rebif. I find that if a doctor does recommend something, it generally means they've had good experiences with that medication, have other patients on it, and feel confident about how to deal with any side effects or issues you might have.

Don't hesitate to come back with questions. We'll try to help, and at least share our experiences.

Oh dear ROFL at my mistake. Well done for spotting that uppitycats. This is the kind of thing I am dealing with. I often type wrong words.  Relaxing would definitely NOT be the right word. Oh I have the giggles now. Well at least I can laugh at myself :) Note to self: read ALL of my post before I press SUBMIT.

Yes I am so proud of DS. He's a really smart guy but doesn't always have a lot of commonsense so this was a great achievement for him.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...ok i LOVE u'r version of RRMS!!! Let me chime in here and say bravo to u'r son for taking care of things for u...and bravo to u for such good mothering! WOOHOO!!!

I'm so sorry about the confirmed dx, but on the other hand really glad u finally know. As all here know...once u see all the symptoms and go thru all the testing...u can sometimes really just know what it is. Having to wait for there to be enuf 'proof' to get the dx can be frustrating while u'r also dealing with the symptoms day to day. Now u can get on with the business of deciding on a therapy med and learning to fight this diseae! Take good care of u'rself and let us know what u decide and how u are friend.
