I am off of all my drugs. Interferon and everything b/c i want to try for a second child soon. But I am definitely having a flare. Anyhow, the newest symptom is the inability to feel temperature with my hands. I can't tell hot or cold and yet they always feel like they have icy hot on them- like a hot/cold feeling and tingling. They are hypersensitive in some spots, even a breeze freaks me out. What the heck is this? Anyone have this and anyone know what to do to make it better?? I called the neuro b/c this is not my only new symtptom but he did not seem to even get what I was talking about.......

Hey Teresa,

I have this exactly as you have described it but it is my feet.  I get "bengay boots"  - icy hot.  I also have no ability to sense temperature with my feet.  I have no idea what the answers is.  I have always just put up with it.  I CANNOT stand wearing shoes.  I have to wear them of course but I hate wearing them.  I cut my toe pretty bad the other day and didn't know it.  I found it a couple days later and by then it was pretty icky looking.  I am going to have inspect the tooties everynight now. 

Hurry up and get pregnant.  Those hormones are supposed to really help with MS.  Good to hear from you again.

Hi Teresa,

I have had the burn in hands and feet off and on for almost a year now.  I don't have the problem with not being able to tell temperature though.  Being a massage therapist not only am I on my feet all day but I am using my hands so some of it is occupational.  Before my MS diagnosis they always said it was my fibromyalgia and gave me a steriod shot which does resove it for 3 months or so.  Unfortunately it always comes back.  I am sorry you are feeling so bad and really can't take anything for it.  Hang in there.  I hope you feel better.

p.s  Gretchen the shoes are the first to come off when I hit the door.  Sometimes I wear flip flops to work because my feet are so bad.

I have been getting this feeling in my hands and feet and it's enough to drive one batty! I sympathize with those who have been dealing with this for years.

I am also interested in any advice to relieve this sensation. Thanks everyone! :-)

Hey Gretchen I missed you!!! I was having such a good run comin goff my MS meds (which made me sick) that I didn't even want to think of MS!!! But just when you think you have got it beat it comes back to bite you! My neuro thinks this is a relapes due to an infection in a tooth! YUCK! this hand thing is driving me nuts! I burnt my hands like 5 times this week!

I get the Bengay thing to. And recently (to add some humor to the thread) get little small spots of the sensation on my rear end and am always reaching back reactively so see what I've sat in ;) Nice. I recently started a new medicine to help with nerve pain. (which is what i think this sensation is and the neuro agreed, sometimes it hurts, sometimes prickles or numbness or the Bengay). Anyway, we are trying nortriptyline 10mg to start and can supposedly go up to 50mg. It took me two months to fill the prescription so I'm only on it 3 days. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks if it's working. IT's in the tricyclic antidepressant family actually. I'll withhold my opinion for now and give it some time ;) But! I dont' know if you could take it if you're trying to get pregnant.
I work in environmental health and a children's environmental health program. So can I give my plug for breastfeeding or glass baby bottles, because maybe if you have to go back on meds quickly you will need to do formula. And the clear nipples (not the yellow). Safer plastics are 1,2 and 5. Avoid #7. Sorry...can't stop myself. Safer for all of us in my pro ;) opinion. I'm a font of annoying information for my family members. Willow p.s. Hello everyone.
This is my first time here.
I was looking up "icey hot" sensation Ive been feeling in my feet and legs for the past week,and google brought me here to this page,so I signed up.
I was sort of diagnosed with MS a few months ago. I say sort of because theyre just not sure whats going on with me.
Most of my symptoms seem to be in direct correlation with MS though,and this is just one more to add to the list now,sadly.
I refused a spinal tap,and the last MRI I had showed no lesions or cause for concern,but Im having tons of neurological problems and things just keep slowly but steadily getting worse.
Some symptoms come and go,which i find really weird.

I can totally relate to those of you haveing the "icey hot" feeling.
I have it in patches up and down my legs and in my feet. Its not my entire feet or legs,just parts. And its very annoying.

Anyway,I just wanted to say a quick hello to you all.
Im glad I came across the site.
It looks like there's alot of friendly support for what we're all going through.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.

I have had the same feeling across my back for years. I keep telling the drs that I feel like someone injected icyhot in my spine. it is a 4 inch wide band across my back. recently I had the same feeling in my thighs and upper arms. it tingles and I get the icyhot feeling and it itches but the skin seems numb so when I scratch it I can't feel how hard I scratch and I bruise myself horribly
