I am trying Cymbalta 30 mg.  Day 2 by evening I was a bit shakey and kind of hyper.  This led to very little sleep last night.  Can anyone tell me, does this pass?  It seemed to help with leg pain almost immediately, however the first time my stomach didn't tolerate it that well.  This time I am taking stuff to deal with my stomach but am kind of bouncing off the walls.  Other SSRI's did this to me so bad that I couldn't take them.  I am so weird when it comes to medicines.

I took cymbalta for two weeks and had a similiar problem with sleep. I was told by my doctor to try and ride it out but it was just too much. I was taking it for bipolar which I have on top of ms so I finally got switched to seroquel. It's easy for doctors to say ride it out when it's not them. I would give it a couple more days max then I would ask for something else. HOPE THIS HELPS = GOD BLESS IRISH

Yes, this will pass. I have been taking Cymbalta for a long while now and had this same reaction. It does tend to make u jittery and sleepless for awhile at first and will upset ur stomach too at first. I thought it was maybe my GERD in combination with the med, so i was taking my GERD med with the Cymbalta med at night, but come to find out it was not. I am not taking the GERD med in the morn as I normally would and the Cymbalta at night (due to sleepy effect!!!) and am doing just great!! Hang in there and give it some more time. It should work out soon.

Hi Rhonda,

Ok...so you are taking the Cymbalta at night before bed?  I wondered about doing that because I took it yesterday morning and was fine until about 5:00 and then got jittery and then couldn't sleep.  I tend to get side effects hours later so maybe before bed would be ok.  I just want to find something that works.  Do you mind me asking how much Cymbalta you take?  Mine is just 30mg.  Does it help you with pain too?

Mine was prescribed EXACTLY for that...pain. Well for pain and various other symptoms that were and still are undx'd. It has worked wonderfully for me! I do take 30mg's. I was taking 60mg's, but requested that my doc take it down to 30 because it seemed a bit too much for me. Since going back to the 30 I feel much better. My doc actually prescribed it for me to take at night. I do feel the sleepiness now, but at first i was very nervous and jittery. It was hard to fall asleep and stay asleep. That passed in a few weeks and since i've been fine. Best wishes and let us know how u'r doing with this. I think u'll be ok if u hang in there.

I haven’t taken cymbalta, but I tend to have a hard time with med side effects as well, especially during that initial adjustment period. One of the things that has helped me, is to start on a very low dose of the med in question. Once my body has adjusted, I increase the dose from there. I will often start out taking such a low dose that it is not even supposed to be effective, and go from there. I’ve had several docs suggest this strategy, and it does seem to help. I don’t know if this would be something you could talk to your neuro about trying with the cymbalta (or if it's something that's even safe or possible to do with this med), but I thought I throw it out there.

Hi Sunny,

I am right there with you!  I have actually had a nurse practitioner at my GP's office try to give me the recommended dose of something.  When I told her I wanted the lowest dose, she laughed and said it wouldn't work.  After explaining my situation I told her to go as my doctor and he would tell her.  She came back in the room and told me my doctor said to listen to ME!  HA!  I am on 30mg of Cymbalta which is next to the lowest dose.  60 is actually the starting dose so I am ok with trying the 30.  It does seem to help with my leg pain so I am willing to try it for awhile.  If the jitters aren't gone by next week, I will ask them to lower the dose to 20.  I wish I could just take what is supposed to work with no problem but not me...I am a whimp when it comes to drugs.  Guess in a way thats a good thing.  Thanks for your input.  Have a great weekend.
